RuthFernandez was born on 23 May1919 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the youngest duaghter of Santiago Fernández and Rosa María Cortada.
Fernandez herself was a victim of such discrimination on many occasions, even as a noted professional singer.
Fernandez has received many honors throughout her illustrious career and has been recognized by various countries, such as Panamá, Venezuela, the United States, and, of course, her native Puerto Rico for her contributions.
In 1976, Fernandez was accused of forging a signature on a quitclaim deed to 230 acres of timberland in Eugene, Ore., and then selling the timber rights to a lumber company for $75,000.
In closing arguments during the criminal trial, the prosecuting attorney told the jury it was obvious Fernandez had married the victim for her wealth, and that he had taken on a mistress and killed his wife to inherit her estate and collect on insurance policies.
Fernandez steadfastly denied murdering his wife, claiming she was drunk when she drove the motorhome off a logging road.

One of Fernandez’s interests has been to diminish the protagonistic role of the artist, and with this in mind, he has proposed to exhibit occasionally with Libermann, since they studied together in England.
Fernandez has on previous occasions shown a clear interest in the residual effects of architecture.
Both Fernandez and Libermann have been developing their art for almost twenty years, and from the beginning, especially in the case of Libermann, they have rigorously moved in a forward direction.

This family of FERNANDEZ's is said to have originated in Goa and moved to Ootacamund in late 1880's.

The husky wail of Latin favorite RuthFernandez was in prime form on Yo Soy la Que Soy, an excellent album that features help from La Orquesta Pan Americana de Lito Pena.
Although her previous material was more based in ballads and sadder material, here she tries applying her melancholy croon to up-tempo material.
Still, Fernandez is about as good as it gets when it comes to these type of singers, so this is a highly recommended album of classic Latin pop.
