Ruth Pitter (1897 - February 29, 1992) was a (The people of Great Britain) British (A writer of poems (the term is usually reserved for writers of good poetry)) poet.
Pitter was a traditionalist poet--she avoided most of the experimentations of modern verse and preferred the (Any of various measuring instruments for measuring a quantity) meter and (Correspondence in the sounds of two or more lines (especially final sounds)) rhyme schemes of the (Click link for more info and facts about 19th century) 19th century.
She met and corresponded with Lewis for many years, and is thought by many Lewis scholars to have had an effect on his writing in the (The decade from 1940 to 1949) 1940s and (The decade from 1950 to 1959) 1950s.

Her mother and father were both teachers in the East End, and introduced her at an early age to poetry and to an enjoyment of the countryside on the edge of London.
