Ruzar Briffa is one of those extraordinary men who achieves honor in more than one occupation.
While at the University, Briffa's nationalist sentiments became very apparent and he soon penned his memorable, L-Innu Malti u I-Kotra, which translates "The Maltese National Anthem and the People." This strong nationalistic poem insured Briffa's place as one of Malta's major poets.
Today, Ruzar Briffa's poetry is credited with stimulating the development of Malta's creative new school of modern poets.

Louisette Briffa, widow of the renowned Maltese poet, Ruzar Briffa, donated her husband's papers to the University Library where they will be preserved in the Special Collections Department.

In 1927 he joined the orchestra at the Royal Opera House with whom he played until the beginning of World War II.
