DNA Composition, Codon Usage and Exon Prediction   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Model dependent coding statistics, however, require of a representative sample of coding DNA from the species under consideration where to estimate the model's parameters (probabilities).
Model independent coding statistics, on the other hand, capture only the ``universal'' features of coding DNA; since they do not require of a sample of coding DNA, they can be used even in absence of previously known coding regions from the species under consideration.
In this case, the model of coding DNA is based on the probabilities of the four nucleotides at each codon position, depending on the nucleotide occurring at the preceding codon position (technically called the transition probabilities).

 11. Integrating land-use change and evaluating feedbacks in global change models: The IMAGE 2 approach
Data are used from the observed atmospheric concentrations, the assumed (=modelled) uptake by the oceans and the well-defined emissions from fossil-fuel combustion.
The overall objective of the IMAGE 2 model is to simulate, on the basis of political and socio-economic scenarios, plausible future trends of GHG concentrations in the atmosphere and to determine their impacts on physical, biogeochemical and human systems.
The models are designed such that the effectiveness of improved energy efficiency and technological development on future emissions in each regions can be evaluated and that the set of models can be used to assess the consequences of different policies and socio-economic trends on future emissions.

 AN INTEGRATIVE MODEL OF MIGRAINE
They are components of an integrative model in which relatively natural therapies address the underlying causes of the illness, in addition to standard medical treatment for symptomatic relief.
A complementary medicine model, in which standard medical treatments (which can often provide temporary symptomatic relief) are integrated with natural therapeutics (intended to address more fundamental causes), is proposed as a plausible next step in the treatment of migraine.
Additional research is needed to further document the clinical effectiveness of this model, to evaluate the role of intestinal pathology in migraine, and to determine which elements of the treatment protocol contribute to positive outcomes.

 MAPSS
The conceptual framework for the MAPSS model is that vegetation distributions are, in general, constrained either by the availability of water in relation to transpirational demands, or the availability of energy for growth (Neilson and Wullstein 1983, Neilson et al.
The model calculates the leaf area index of both woody and grass life forms (trees or shrubs, but not both) in competition for both light and water, while maintaining a site water balance consistent with observed runoff (Neilson 1995).
Biomes are not explicitly simulated in MAPSS; rather, the model simulates the distribution of vegetation lifeforms (trees, shrubs, grass), the dominant leaf form (broadleaf, needleleaf), leaf phenology (evergreen, deciduous), thermal tolerances and vegetation density (LAI).

Oxidative Stress in Toxicology: Established Mammalian and Emerging Piscine Model Systems
This suggests that piscine models, in addition to traditional mammalian models, may be useful for further understanding the mechanisms underlying the oxidative stress response.
The majority of animal studies focusing on oxidative stress have employed mammalian cell or organ models to analyze the oxidative capacity of a particular toxicant or to evaluate the efficacy of a compound, such as an antioxidant, to protect from toxicant-mediated oxidative damage.
There are several advantages to using piscine systems to study oxidative stress, such as the reduction in the number of mammals used in research, the potential for a reduction in the cost of animal maintenance, and the ability to increase the power of the experiment by increasing the number of organisms per study.

 MAPSS Model Desciption
MAPSS (Mapped Atmosphere-Plant-Soil System) is a global biogeography model which simulates the potential natural vegetation that can be supported at any upland site in the world under a long-term steady-state climate.
In temperate latitudes, water is the primary constraint, while at high latitudes energy is the primary constraint (exceptions occur, of course, particularly in some areas that may be nutrient limited).
Water in the surface layer is apportioned to the two life forms in relation to their relative LAIs and stomatal conductances, i.e., canopy conductance, while woody vegetation alone has access to deeper soil water.
