S gauge   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
S gauge is a scale in model railroading.
S gauge is sometimes confused with standard gauge, a large-scale standard for toy trains in the early part of the 20th century.
The first trains marketed as S gauge appeared in the 1930s when American Flyer marketed a 1:64 scale train that ran on 3-rail track similar to that of Lionel.

 Trains.com - K-line and S Gauge
S gaugers desperate for cheap rolling stock have resorted for years to putting S gauge trucks on O27 cars; now K-Line is saving them the trouble.
The K-line toy trains for S gauge run counter to the great Gilbert tradition of having a line of trains tough enough for play but still thoughtfully done as a recognizable scale model (or representation).
This is S gauge on the real dirt cheap and it is bush league treatment of the S gauge community.

Hobby Works - Welcome to Hobbyworks.com!
The terms scale and gauge are two of the most confused terms in the model railroad hobby.
O Gauge is not a scale, but the term is used to define O Scale trains as well as toy trains that run on track that is 1.25" between the outside rails (5 scale feet).
The most correct definition of O gauge as it has evolved today is as follows: It is term used to describe a group of toy trains that is roughly based on ¼" scale and runs on non-scale three rail track that is 1.25" between the outside rails.

The most common rain gauge used today by official forecasters and airports was invented over 100 years ago.
The official rain gauge has a 50 centimeter high cylinder with a 20 centimeter in diameter funnel that collects water into a measuring tube that has exactly one-tenth the cross sectional area of the top of the funnel.
The reason for the smaller measuring tube is so that more precise rainfall measurements can be made due to the exaggeration of the height of water in the tube.

An Introduction to the Gauge Integral
Cousin's Lemma is not obvious; that is admittedly a drawback in the gauge theory.
The gauge integral is far simpler to define than the Lebesgue integral -- it does not need to be preceded by explanations of sigma-algebras and measures.
Introducing the gauge integral into level (3), the graduate course, might also be a good idea, but it would involve greater complication.

S gauge trains began at age 5 when I awoke one Christmas morning to find a simple oval layout in our living room.
First passed down from my Uncle, and then my older cousin, this 1949 set was not much of a "set" at all, but rather a collection of a few cars, a New Haven "A-Unit" locomotive, and a couple of accessories.

 Railway Gauge
When Isambard Brunel was building the London to Bristol line in 1838 he decided to use what became known as the broad gauge (2.2 m) instead of the standard gauge (1.44m) on the line.
It was also pointed out by Brunel that the broad gauge was safer and that locomotives would be less likely to leave the rails on sharp bends.
The Gauge Act passed by Parliament in 1846 made the standard gauge compulsory for all new railways.
