What happens in S1M0NE is that Simone begins to dominate Viktor's life and his movies, to the point that she gets more attention than his work.
S1M0NE is a movie rich with ideas, and while Andrew Niccol probably could have made more with his material, I liked his approach nonetheless.

Better than you'd think, S1m0ne is low-key and subtle, but jam-packed with nifty little touches that will appeal to the cineaste more than the casual video viewer.
In a sense, S1m0ne is the reverse of Niccol's screenplay for The Truman Show.

 S1M0NE - Movie Review (Simone)
'S1m0ne' is, sporadically, a very funny satire of Hollywood, the media, and the often completely irrational nature of fan culture.
Taransky is fed up with the ridiculous demands of movie stars, from squabbling over who has the biggest trailer to commanding him to pick all the pink ones out of a bag of jelly-beans.
But, for all that, I found 'S1m0ne' an enjoyable movie, predominantly for its tongue-in-cheek approach and, of course, the presence of the marvellous Pacino.

While not quite the equal of his other two outings, S1m0ne is damn good film-- full of barbs and jokes at the expense of Hollywood actors and studios.
There is a David Mamet feel of being slightly removed from the characters, yet that seems to be a staple of Niccol's films as well.

deseretnews.com - Movie review: S1m0ne | Deseret Morning News Web edition
"S1m0ne" isn't the first Hollywood parody to come out of the Entertainment Capital of the World this year.
But it's also cliched, and there are glaring plot holes galore, which lead to a rather unsatisfying ending — one that could be resolved in an easier, more convincing fashion.
"S1m0ne" is rated PG-13 for scattered use of profanity, brief sexual, some vulgar sexual talk, slapstick violence (a "riot" of sorts) and flashes of partial female nudity.

 Jigsaw Lounge - S1M0NE
Just as its pixellated heroine is a combination of legendary Hollywood sex sirens (plus a little Ernest Borgnine), S1m0ne is a composite — fundamentally a hybrid of Billy Wilder’s Fedora and William Gibson’s novel Idoru, but with countless further in-jokes, references and hommages thrown into the mix.
But S1m0ne, like Simone, is more than just the sum of its parts: visually striking and thematically intriguing, it’s often also laugh-out-loud hilarious while managing the extremely difficult feat of sustaining its comic momentum over an audacious 2-hour running time.
The one striking exception comes when Simone ‘appears’ in public for the first time at a sell-out stadium concert: enshrouded by dry ice, hologrammatically belting out ‘Natural Woman’ to her arm-waving, adoring public.

From the writer of "The Truman Show", you'd expect some digs at the media industry, and "S1m0ne" sets itself up as a satire of star-worship and the shallowness of modern-day fame.
Simone herself is almost-living proof of how inaccessible modern stars are - nobody's seen her in the flesh, but they don't doubt her existence.

But S1m0ne, his second go at directing (again from his own screenplay) is, disappointingly, far less accomplished than his debut.
The somewhat surreal nature of the film is illustrated by a decidedly surreal colour palette in many sequences throughout the movie, and elsewhere there seems to have been a deliberate effort made to balance colour and contrast in what would normally be considered to be an unnatural way.
A decided disappointment despite a promising premise, S1m0ne gets a lot of things right but gets the big picture wrong, and as a result is only a vaguely entertaining satire when it could easily have been so much more.

From what we see of Simone, she still can't interact closely with living co-stars (although in an all-digital cast that shouldn't be a problem), and the instant proficiency of the technologically challenged Viktor is hardly believable.

Not worth paying for, but as a curiosity on HBO or Showtime, it might be worth watching while channel-surfing.
Beneath the uncanny, inevitable and seemingly shrewd facade of the movie-biz farce "Simone" -- about a computer-generated actress taking Hollywood by storm because nobody knows she's not real -- lies a plot cobbled together from largely flat and uncreative moments.
An uncredited Canadian actress named Rachel Roberts provides the physical basis for the character, which was manipulated with different physical traits and vocal elements.

Although Viktor created S1m0ne, it seems as though it's the other way around; his name and face are right next to hers, but only as a result of how audiences are accepting her computer-generated talents.
Overall, the film is above-average; the dialogue is half original, half cliché and the acting is entertaining enough due largely to Pacino.

One could consider S1m0ne as an attempt by writer/director Andrew Niccol to comment on the over-importance of actors in movies today, the amazing advances in technology, and the gullibility of the general public (or sheep, as one of my friends calls us).
Though not credited for her efforts in the film, model Rachel Roberts plays the title character quite well, though Niccol obviously used technology to change her appearance and voice to a certain degree.
Honestly I'd say that Roberts looks better than the digitally enhanced s1m0ne.
