Ask Us A Question - Missile guidance technologies of missile systems use a variety of methods to guide a missile to its ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
SACLOS, semi-automatic command to line of sight, is similar to MCLOS but some automatic system positions the missile in the line of sight while the operator simply tracks the target.
SACLOS has the advantage of allowing the missile to start in a position invisible to the user, as well as generally being considerable easier to operate.
SACLOS is the most common form of guidance against ground targets such as tanks and bunkers.

 AT - 4 SPIGOT Anti-Tank Guided Missile
The SACLOS guidance system increases accuracy and reduces operator training requirements, since it is no longer necessary for the operator to track target and missile simultaneously.
An apparatus at the control site then generates guidance commands which are transmitted to the missile by wire, causing the missile to eliminate the deviation.
The requirement that the missile launcher of a SACLOS system be collocated with the aiming and tracking assembly (i.e., the operator) eliminates the possibility of moving the operator to a remote position for safety.

 Informat.io on At 4 Spigot
The AT-4 Spigot is the NATO reporting name for the 9M111 Fagot (Bassoon) SACLOS wire-guided Anti-tank missile of the Soviet Union.
The launcher tracks the position of an incandescent infrared bulb on the back of the missile relative to the target - and transmits approriate commands to the missile via a thin wire that trails behind the missile.
The SACLOS guidance system has many benefits over MCLOS, with the accuracy of the system stated as 90% in some sources, though its performance is probably comparable to the TOW or the later SACLOS versions of the AT-3 Sagger.

"SACLOS" (short for "Semi-Automatic Command to Line-Of-Sight") is a method by which missile missiles can be guided.
In SACLOS guidance, the operator has to continually point a sighting device at the target while the missile is in flight.
Radar Radar was the most common form of SACLOS signals in early systems, as in the anti-aircraft anti-aircraft role the target is typically being hit by a radar signal anyway.

On firing, the operator has only to keep his aiming mark on the target and the SACLOS guidance system will do the rest.
Milan was the first of a series of infantry anti-tank weapons that seriously started to challenge the supremacy of the main battle tank on the battlefield.
In addition to being capable of defeating main battle tanks (MBTs) from all aspects, Milan is also required to have a secondary capability against other battlefield targets, such as fixed defences.

:'''SACLOS''' :SACLOS, semi-automatic command to line-of-sight, is a modification of MCLOS systems, in which the operator tracks only the target, and electronics calculate the needed "lead".
Commands are then sent to the missile as before, either over radio control or wire guidance.
SACLOS dramatically reduces the operator workload, typically to simply keeping a piece of equipment pointed at the target.

this is a good move, as it replaces a SACLOS missile with a fire & forget type. The fire & forget capability helps beat the tank overwatch tactic, as unlike SACLOS the enemies' overwatching tank firing back at the launch position won't put the gunners aim off.

Which Anti-Tank Missiles Are Best   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
They have often been on the short end of the stick when engaged in combat with armored vehicles.  There are dozens of ATGM models out there, and a few are better at what they do.
Anti-tank guided missiles usually are controlled through a guidance system known as SACLOS (semi-automatic command line-of-sight).
All an operator has to do is to hold the tank, infantry fighting vehicle, or armored personnel carrier in the sights of the missile launcher, and the missile will be guided into the target, either via wires that connect the missile to the launcher or via electronic transmissions from the missile to the launcher.
