Safege Consulting Engineers v Ranhill Bersekutu Sdn Bhd [CAM]
On January 19, 1993, Ranhill and Safege entered into a separate agreement called the Memorandum of Association ("the memorandum") to lay down the rights and obligations as between them in respect of the consulting services to be given under the agreement.
But the question of contribution was a dispute between Ranhill and Safege, a dispute which did not concern the employer, under a different agreement with an arbitration clause of its own, one with a different mode of choosing an arbitrator from that in section 4.07 of the agreement.
In the appeal, Ranhill, through their counsel, construed section 4.07 by focusing on the fact that a question, dispute or difference of opinion that is to be referred to arbitration is one that arises "upon or in relation to or in connection with this agreement".

SAFEGE systems are the leading type of suspended monorail currently in transit use, though this consists of very few systems.

 Technical Page - Safege
The essence of the system was the conversion of the rubber-tired bogie developed for the Paris Metro into a bogie from which the coaches could be suspended to make an aerial railway.
The bogie ran inside a hollow box girder on the lower face of which was a slot through which the suspension gear passed.
The cars were hung on a pendulum type suspension with pneumatic springs, giving stability and comfort even at high speeds.

Needless to say I took photos of it, which are in the SAFEGE Photo Adventure link.

AN INNOVATIVE SCHEME FOR DELEGATED MANAGEMENT
For this reason, having long practised a policy of technical assistance, the funding agencies are increasingly turning to delegated management which is both a durable option and provides greater reliability in terms of debt recovery and the success of the projects financed.
Against this background, Lysa and Safege have been looking at new forms of delegated management which are practicable in emerging countries, since they demand only moderate increases in the price of water over the first five years of their implementation.
With the concession system, capital expenditure is made by the operator, which entails considerable risk and may even lead to failure to implement the project, owing to the need for massive increases in water rates.

SAFEGE monorail, then and now - Cyburbia Forums
Even though I am not a planner by trade, monorail technology is exciting.....and in a world with a whole lot of "gas" problems, it sure seems like a wise direction to move in.
I think the elevator idea is a little bit out there, Especially when you get to the point of driving freight or vehicles into the cars...but I understand and agree with all the other points on why a hanging monorail is better than a supported one.
When i was young, i went to see SAFEGE trial at Chateauneuf-sur-Loire, and the driver invited me to ride.

 ZPi | French Monorail Trash
This train was part of the SAFEGE suspended monorail, built in Saran, France in 1959 and discarded a mere decade later.
Since that picture was smuggled out of France, the train remains have been recovered and transported to an abandoned military base, where they are under close guard by government officials.
When operational (or at least as operational as monorails can be) the SAFEGE was featured in the 1966 film Fahrenheit 451 (see right) in order to give both the film and the SAFEGE an air of near-futuricity.

The solution is not to simply scale up a SAFEGE track to make it wide enough for a bikeway.
