Francis accused SARFU in an article in an Irish Sunday newspaper of turning a blind eye to the problem and being "appallingly lax" in its approach towards drug testing.
In a press statement, SARFU said the union had been acknowledged as having the "most effective anti-doping regulations in the world" by John Davies, medical consultant to the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and spokesman for the doping task team of the International Rugby Board (IRB).

The Stormers captain surprised Sarfu on Wednesday when his legal team submitted 249 pages of case studies, other documents and a number of annexures, containing, inter alia, newspaper cuttings of articles in which Sarfu president Brian van Rooyen criticised his own union.
Sarfu's head of policy and regulations, Christo Ferreira, who is acting as prosecutor in the hearing, asked that the hearing be postponed until Krige returned from the Stormers'; Australasian Super 12 tour in May.
In short, it said Sarfu's code of conduct was in conflict with the South African constitution, since it violated Krige's right to freedom of speech, as stipulated in article 16 of the constitution.

The then newly-founded Sarfu took a decision that former SA Rugby Board (incorporating the SA Rugby Federation and SA Rugby Association) players and administrators, and former SA Rugby Union (Saru) players and administrators, who qualified for national colours in their respective pre-unity bodies, should be appropriately recognised.
This was later reaffirmed by the Sarfu executive committee at a meeting in 1997 where it was recorded that ex-Saru players, as well as delegates and committee members at national level, who qualified for their national colours, were eligible for Sarfu national colours.

The South African Rugby Players Association (Sarpa), which represents all the country's professional players, has declared a dispute with SA Rugby, saying that the leaders of the sport were "two-faced", had "no integrity", and pursued a policy of trying to fool the public.
