The SEAT Ibiza is a supermini manufactured by the Volkswagen Group and sold under the SEAT brand.
The Ibiza is based on the same chassis as the Volkswagen Polo 6KV, itself a modified version of the Volkswagen Golf mk3 chassis.
SEAT launched a new advertising campaign to follow the new model with the slogan "The rituals are different, the spirit is the same".

Tuning Linx - New SEAT Ibiza 2006
While it is not a new generation, it is possible to speak of a new Ibiza since the restyling of its body emphasises its sporty and dynamic characteristics even further.
Various light clusters, dark-red in colour, are visible at the rear, while the "Ibiza" badge is now positioned at the centre of the tailgate, as seen on the latest generation of SEAT models.
The inside of the FR boasts a sportier appearance thanks to the seats, which offer excellent lateral support, and the steering wheel, gear stick and upholstery, which are all exclusive to this model.

Launch Pad - Seat Ibiza 2002-
The Ibiza has been around since 1984 when it was introduced in homeland Spain as a rival to the Ford Escort and VW Golf.
Seat hope their new hatchback will appeal to the heart as well as the head - so there’s a dash of Spanish flair in the design.
Seat has also concentrated on safety, with twin front airbags standard across the range, collapsible steering column and a more rigid chassis.

Seat's 2006 facelift of its Ibiza supermini largely consists of an overhaul of its exterior and interior styling and an updating of its engine range.
Its sporty styling follows cues from the Seat Leon, Altea and Toledo models, which can be most obviously seen in the new wraparound front bumper and honeycomb grille, flanked by double headlights on all models.

 CARkeys - Seat Ibiza 1.2
In the case of the entry-level Seat Ibiza, it's worth bearing in mind that this model now comes with air conditioning, previously fitted as standard only from the S variant upwards, included in the price.
One thing about Seats is that they don't seem to be quite right without bright colour schemes, and they certainly look better in the metallic or pearl-effect finishes which cost an additional £250.
Seat just hasn't done enough work on keeping the decibels down, and the result is that the Ibiza seems a lot cruder than it really is. David Finlay.

SEATCupra.net - Your #1 source for SEAT information - SEAT IBIZA VAILLANTE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
The objective of its presentation at the SEAT stand at the Geneva Motor Show is to attract visitors, not to see a fantastically unreal show-car, but to a vehicle that has been developed from the new Ibiza – one that could well be the first compact car driven by the famous comic-book driver Michel Vaillant.
With the Vaillante, SEAT Design director Luc Donckerwolke and his team wanted to transform the Ibiza into a comic-strip inspired fantasy, an exaggerated version that suggests the Ibiza is a young car with a rightful place in a popular cartoon strip.
SEAT’s Design director justifies his fondness for Michel Vaillant in that “several leading names in the motor racing industry are familiar with Vaillant, a fictional character who has been with them and triggered their growing interest for cars”.

SEAT says the monicker is being reserved for a hotter version later in the year, while an even spicier Cupra R is on the cards for 2005 and promises to be the first Ibiza to join the 200-plus bhp club.
Still, in the compact Ibiza shell 150 horses are enough to make the car feel pretty lively: 0-62mph is dispatched in a respectable 8.4 seconds while terminal velocity is reached at 134mph, which is plenty quick enough for a junior hot hatch.
SEAT says the modifications bring about a 15 per cent reduction in lateral body movement, but in practice the changes feel more effective than the figures suggest, giving the Ibiza an agility that shames its lesser brethren.

Seat decided to fund the testing of a car with side impact airbags, which are an option in some European markets.
Protection for children was mixed: the older one was well looked after but in the frontal impact the chest and neck loads for the 18-month-old were relatively high.
Side Impact The Ibiza protected reasonably well without a side airbag although forces acting on the driver’s chest were relatively high.

Seat has chosen the Geneva Motor Show to present its new Ibiza, which now boasts the distinctive features of the marque's new design, following the example of the Altea, Toledo and Leon.
One year ago, at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2005, Seat presented the Leon Prototipoconcept car whose principal attributes, bearing the stamp of sportiness, were to transform the rest of the range.
Unsurprisingly, the new Ibiza therefore comes with the famous honeycomb grille, the front and rear bumpers of the new Leon, very attractive twin headlights, the latest fashion in wheels and hubcaps, the Ibiza badge positioned centrally on the tailgate, and new exhaust pipes (for engines above 100 hp).
