Sega of Japan was purchased for $38 million by a group of investors led by Rosen and Hayao Nakayama, a Japanese businesman who owned a distribution company that had been acquired by Rosen in 1979.
Unfortunately Sega has fallen on hard times recently and is moving out of hardware manufacturing, at least in the home console market; the arcade SEGA Naomi units are still being produced.
Sega was attempting to "lock out" game companies from making Genesis games unless they paid Sega a fee (ostensibly to maintain a consistent level of quality of games for their system.) Their strategy was to make the hardware reject any catridge that did not include a sega trademark.

 FUTURE GAMEZ - Rez Review
Don't be too put off by the lack of levels in the game, there is plenty more to unlock and you'll have absolutely no hesitation in having another go to beat your high score, or just chill out to the visuals and music.
The games levels are mostly wire frame based, but have a complete life of their own.
United Game Arts have produced one of the best games on Playstation 2 and while I would love to give the game a higher score I do realise that the length of the game may be an issue for some people, as well as the predominantly shooter styled gameplay.

The Armchair Empire - Playstation 2 Preview: Rez
It seems we are in the space age and I have a hunch that Rez, in development by UGA (United Game Artists; a Sega subsidiary) is the multi-medium and that PS2 is the space age console.
Rez previously known as Project K was debuted at E3 2001, hidden in the corner of the invitation only Sega booth moving on a 20 inch screen in video form, replaying a 2 minute loop perpetually.
All game and anime imagery is the property of their respective owners.

Also, the songs vary as you play the game due the fact that all of your in game actions have corresponding instrument effects.
The only thing this game is missing is the vibration pack that was bundled with the game in Japan.
For really weird fun, once you've completed a good bit of the game, extra play modes open up, including a mode where you play the game as one of the wired alien guys found in Space Channel 5 (Rez is by the same developer so this isn't all that much of a surprise I guess).

 Consoul Games: Lumines the Rezurrection?
On the surface, the game was a simple shooter, but at its heart, it was a unique and hypnotically beautiful synaesthetic experience that explored the evolution of human civilisation and technology.
The game developed a cult following and is still regarded by many as one of the must-have titles for both Dreamcast and PS2.
Lumines is a puzzle game which clearly borrows from the Tetris tradition, and at a glance it could be mistaken for yet another clone in the sea of Tetris-derivatives.

The game is very much a shooter, but it’s soul lays in the player’s ability to transform the musical landscape by feeding off the frantic nature of the game.
The concept of the game may be a little complex, but playing Rez couldn’t be simpler: hold down the X button and drag the cursor over targets to highlight them, release the X button to fire.
For one the game has no multi-player modes, which would have done well to increase replay value and to play off of the competitive nature of the point-based modes.

When reaching the fifth and final area of the games normal mode, I was teased with text telling the story of Mans evolution and the possibility of a future evolution - human and technological prophecies, indeed.
The extra modes are a necessary addition to the already short game, but for any casual gamer who doesnt like to replay levels these extras may never see the light of day if he or she cant sit with the game to replay levels and unlock them.

It was originally released on the Sega Dreamcast, but only in Japan and European markets, and is a fairly rare and very sought after game on the Dreamcast, mainly due to the many defective pressings of the game.
The game was developed by SEGA's United Game Artists division, produced and conceptualized by Tetsuya Mizuguchi.
A "Special Package" version of the game was sold in Japan only, including a USB device called a trance vibrator, [1] (http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.05/play.html?pg=6) which pulses in time with the music.

The game is set in a vast computer network where a female AI program named Eden begins to doubt her very existence and purpose, dropping into a state of unconsciousness and must be found and awakened by the player by navigating through a series of levels.
The game is tightly integrated with sight and sound; a thumping vibration in the Dual Shock 2 controller or Dreamcast rumble packs keeps time with the music, and literally every onscreen action, from missile locking, firing, and exploding to the pulsing of the landscape and the player's avatar themselves, synchronizes with the beat.
It should be noted that the core game experience remains the same and that the actual tangible difference between the two is quite small.

Rez for PlayStation 2 Review - PlayStation 2 Rez Review
Rez, the latest game from Sega's United Game Artists, has a lot in common with the developer's last game, Space Channel 5.
Each of the game's main levels ends in a spectacular boss fight, though none of them are overly difficult, and most players will likely be able to cruise through the game's main mode without much trouble.
The game runs at a smooth pace and delivers some really amazing looking landscapes, and the low poly counts seen in most of the standard enemies give the game the power to throw tons of things at you simultaneously, though this only really happens in a few key spots throughout the game.

An over-emphasis on Western developed shoot ‘em-ups and racing games has long been the major standing criticism of the Xbox as a format, and these latest announcements seem to suggest that Microsoft are well aware of the problem.

While we've just scratched the surface of the rich game and will be clocking in much time with it this weekend, we have to say it makes a winning first impression, which obviously bodes well.

The player's objective in the game is to erase puzzle pieces on the screen by aligning four of the same kind together, either vertically or horizontally.
