The Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award is an award given by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
It was originally known as the Grand Master Award, but in 2002 it was renamed in honor of Damon Knight, the late founder of the SFWA.

Missed: SF Grand Master Andre Norton passed away yesterday.
SF and fantasy author Andre Norton died this morning at her home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, of congestive heart failure, at the age of 93.
In 1984 she became the first female SFWA Grand Master; in 1997 she was inducted into the SF Hall of Fame; and in 1998 she received a World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Grand Master Nebula award, established by the Science Fiction Writers of America to honor outstanding lifetime achievement, has been awarded 15 times.
Each is the subject of a biographical sketch that precedes a sampling of his short fiction, plus autobiographical pieces by Heinlein and Williamson and an essay by de Camp, and a list of five stories or novels recommended for further reading.
But less-experienced fans--a continually expanding number--who want grounding in the genres' classics and their authors would be hard put to find better books to start with than this one.

Indeed, 12 of the 18 SFWA Grand Masters were featured in at least one "classic" Ace Double (i.e., the ones published between 1953 and 1973 in dos-a-dos fashion).
(One of the other 6, Lester Del Rey, has a quasi Ace Double published in 1977.) Three of the Grand Masters are also among the most prolific Ace Double writers: Andre Norton, Jack Vance, and Poul Anderson.
The other Ace Doubles to feature two different Grand Masters were #D-61, from 1954, L. Sprague de Camp's Cosmic Manhunt backed with Clifford Simak's Ring Around the Sun; and #D-110, from 1995, featuring Anderson's No World of Their Own backed with Isaac Asimov's The 1,000-Year Plan (yes, a retitling of Foundation).

One of the last links to the Golden Age of science fiction, SFWA Grand Master L. Sprague de Camp died in his home town of Plano, Texas on November 6, less than a month shy of his 93rd birthday.
He received SFWA's Grand Master Award in 1978, the fourth writer so honored.
His wife, Catherine Crook de Camp, was a frequent co-author of his, as far back as Science Fiction Handbook.
