The SGI O2's direct successor was the SGI Fuel, a high-end workstation primarily based around a single R14000 MIPS CPU.
The Fuel is based around the same architecture as the high-end servers of its time, the SGI Origin 3000-class servers.
The SGI Fuel was available with a R14000 and or a R16000 processor running at speeds between 500 and 700 MHz, with a front side bus (FSB) speed of 200 MHz.

It seems to be a bug in the keypad() function in the SGI implementation of the curses library and occurs when running through the IRIX winterm.
GRASS was installed on SGI Fuel system after downloading the binaries.
The fuel envirnment options "env" shows LANG=C. I have contacted SGI to check the keyboard type and it has not been changed from the ONYX or Indigo keyboard.

GNU/Linux and even NetBSD is mostly out of the question on SGI MIPs depending on which architecture the processor is. For example, my SGI O2 has a R10k proc so its not supported by NetBSD, If I were to have chosen my O2 with a R5k proc I could have run it.
A bottom of the line SGI Fuel workstation will run around $11,000, as for the other MIPS workstation model the Tezro, I dunno the price, SGI likes to keep its prices as hush hush as possible, I'll ask around and see.
The thing with SGI's is that they are so incredibly powerful that they remain useful for a very long period of time.

SGI's have this reputation of being these, all-mighty powerful PCs, but times have changed.
A bus is a freeway that everyone has to go down in order to get to any of the other cities, crossbar is as if each city has a direct access freeway between each other that are all independent from another.
I've got a couple of old SGI's, I'd like to get an old Sun, and when I can find a Tezro under 1,200 USD I'll be getting one of those.

The SGI systems run on MIPS processors that are not supported by Windows.
These are "outdated" machines for the most part although the 320s and 540s have some interesting features such as integrated video architecture (no video cards) and can change their video RAM on the fly.

The Indigo and Fuel are very very different machines.
The only "current" sgi machines which would even run NT/2000 are sgi 320s, 540s and 550s.
a used FUEL (600-700 Mhz, V12) will cost you around 3500 euro - at least that's what you can get them for here in germany, although these machines are extremely rare to find at the moment.

The fuel envirnment options "env" shows LANG=C. I have > contacted SGI to check the keyboard type and it has not been changed > from the ONYX or Indigo keyboard.
I think our support contract with SGI here at QUB has expired, but if, as the bug report implies, the problem is still there on the latest models, somebody with a current support contract etc. could take it further.
