Fay abstract   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The paper I am proposing for the family history conference is a study of the transformation of the elite Egyptian household/family between the late eighteenth century and the late nineteenth century.
In my paper, I want to argue against a teleological approach to this issue: that the Western-style nuclear family was the natural outcome of the social and economic transformation that Egypt underwent during the course of the nineteenth century or that the model was adopted as part of a process of westernization by the elite.
According to Flandrin, from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, the concept of family straddled the notions of coresidence and kinship, that is, a set of kinsfolk who did not live together as well as an assemblage of coresidents who were not necessarily linked by blood or marriage.

Sha Sha, Kweller's 2002 solo debut on Dave Matthews's ATO imprint, captures an understandably cynical but not entirely sour 20-year-old.
While Sha Sha can be broadly described as melodic, somewhat rickety, frequently acoustic, piano-laced pop--think Ben Folds with less irony--there are some twisted shadings.
"Sha Sha" is the album that introduced me to Ben Kweller and he has since become one of my favorite artists.

Speaking of Security... | Blog Entry: Burt Kaliski | Potential Next Steps for SHA-1 : 1011
A move toward stronger hash functions has some practical advantages since protocols wouldn't need to be changed to accommodate random data.
Perhaps even a new family of hash functions should be considered if the similar designs of the SHA family turn out to be less than adequate.
If their analysis holds up, then maybe we'll be able to close the chapter on SHA-1 at NIST’s hash function workshop this Fall and move into the long-term process of designing a new hash function family based on the better design principles brought to light by the SHA-1 results.

March 15, 2006: The SHA-2 family of hash functions (i.e., SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512) may be used by Federal agencies for all applications using secure hash algorithms.
Regardless of use, NIST encourages application and protocol designers to use the SHA-2 family of hash functions for all new applications and protocols.
Those initial attacks did not break any of the SHA family algorithms, as is reflected in NIST's comments at that time.

Introducing the ASH Family of Hashing Algorithms - addict3d.org   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The ASH family is a new generation of cryptographic hashing algorithms
Due to the security record of the SHA family and the availability of the new algorithms released in 2002, SHA-256 and SHA-512 have been chosen as the base algorithms for ASH-1 and ASH-2.
For the first several algorithms, ASH is merely SHA with alterations to the datastream as it enters the hashing function.

The SHA (Secure Hash Algorithm) family is a set of related cryptographic hash functions designed by the National Security Agency.
Also, there is no practical way to calculate a particular data input that will result in a desired hash value and it is impossible to use the hash value to recover the original data.
The most commonly used function in the family is SHA-1 and it is employed in a large variety of popular security applications and protocols, including SSL, PGP, S/MIME and IPsec.

This revision adds a rotate operation that is boasted as an "improvement" to the security of the SHA structure.
Looking at it from a wider angle, consider it an inside look into cryptanalyzing the structure of the SHA family, in such a way that may lead to the practical facilitation for practical attacks against the modern applications of a hash function.
There are other good hash functions, of which deserve a look, but the SHA family carries with it the most analysis, alongside the less secure MD family, so it's probably best to choose it, for now.

The consequences of the Wang, Feng, et al paper in August of 2004 for these SHA variants is not entirely clear as of September 2004.
