	Slavic Languages Division of the ATA
		The Slavic Languages Division (SLD) of the ATA is a professional association of translators and interpreters working in Slavic languages and the languages of the former Soviet bloc.
		All SLD activities are planned and implemented by volunteers, and the broadest possible participation is encouraged.

	SLD Physics Overview
		The physics studies performed at LEP and SLD in e+e- collisions at the Z mass energy have been an exceedingly rich source of new information in the 90's.
		This may be due to deviations in the Z to b-quark coupling which affect the quark measurements, but not the lepton measurement.
		Using the new data, a new measurement of the B fragmentation function is being submitted for publication.

		The SLD LAC can be simulated using a barrel configuration in GISMO, based on current SLD specs (SLD Design Report, 12/85).

		Throughout the filing window for 2003, SLD warned applicants to make sure they adhered to the program's rules, because it had identified a pattern among 2002 applications that violated the eRate's competitive-bidding requirements.
		The SLD asked applicants to submit their funding requests for internal connections (Priority Two services) and telecommunications services and internet access (Priority One services) separately.
		In other eRate news, the SLD announced that it has created an eRate Task Force to identify areas where improvements can be made to combat potential waste, fraud, and abuse by both service providers and applicants.

		The SLD had announced in early December that it had identified a “pattern” of competitive-bidding violations and had warned eRate applicants not to list vendors guilty of the same practices on their 2003 applications.
		The SLD had denied only one application listing IBM as a vendor at the time, but a precursory review of other applications listing IBM as a service provider indicated that a larger pattern of violations likely existed, the agency said.
		March 10 was the SLD’s goal for completing its review of all remaining 2002 applications, but the close scrutiny required of a number of applications for possible program violations has prolonged the review process even further.
