SMRT Buses - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SMRT Buses (originally Trans-Island Bus Services) was originally formed in the 1980s to be a rival of Singapore Bus Services (now SBS Transit).
Tibs used articulated buses, some of which were designed by world-renowned designer Pininfarina and known as the Habit bendy buses, on a large scale in its fleet, as compared to the double deckers used by SBS Transit.
SMRT Buses currently has a fleet of 800 buses plying 74 routes, and is the second-largest bus transit company in Singapore after SBS Transit.

Articles - Articulated bus   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Some models of articulated buses have a steering arrangement on the rearmost axle which turns slightly in opposition to the front steering axle, which allows the vehicle to negotiate turns in a somewhat crab-like fashion, an arrangement similar to that used on long hook-and-ladder firetrucks operating in city environs.
In puller bendy buses the diesel engine is mounted under the floor, between the front and middle (A and B) axles and only the B axle is powered.
Also, modern, low-floor pusher articulated buses usually suffer from suspension problems, because their wheels cannot have enough travel to absorb street unevenness, leading to passenger discomfort and relatively rapid disintegration of the superstructure (unless the road network is overhauled and constantly maintained to near-racetrack standards).

Operators whose buses fail to come on time at least eight in 10 times could be fined up to $100,000 under a new set of service standards kicking in by then.
Getting buses to run on time and ensuring that they are not overcrowded are big priorities, since many commuter complaints are related to this - hence the new 15-minute peak period waiting time, and the requirement that bus services be no more than 95 per cent full on average during such hours.
Buses should run between all major centres of employment and between all HDB towns, the Central Business District and Jurong Industrial Estate, unless there is no demand or sufficient LRT or MRT services.

The main strength of SMRT is this: there isn't any competition for them and they own and control the rail network in the entire country.
It's a bit of a song and dance between the PTC and SMRT when it comes to fare hikes, but at the end of the day fares will be structured in a way to render it profitable.
Furthermore in the current climate it seems SMRT has to battle just to get a few cents price increase so the fact that it is a monopoly is in reality no advantage at all in terms of pricing power.

 Dissolve my loneliness
With two buses in front of 169, I approached the berth and waited for 169 to drive in.
The frequency of buses is not often, on good days, one bus every 15 minutes, on bad days one bus every 20 to 30 minutes.
On many occasions, two of the same buses come at the same time, leaving the commuter to wait for 30 to 45 minutes for the next bus.

Currently, about two-thirds of buses in London have two decks, and 'they will be around for a long time more', she predicted.
My opinion of buses is that they must ferry as many passengers from point A to point B as fast, safely, and comfortablly as possible, while not putting stress on the road conditions.
For this purpose, double - decked buses are the best as they are able to ferry more passengers at once than a standard - length bus, while not taking up as much road space as an articulated (bendy) bus.

A single Travelcard (for Subway, Skytrain and buses) would increase patronage enormously but i think we are years away from that.
I believe with the Skytrain and Subway in presence, the buses and bus facilities have to have a better image first before discussing about any increase in bus fares, so that even the tourists can be attracted to board the buses.
SMRT did have its own set of glitches, although i am not sure exactly what they were.

Also, if a commuter transfers from an SBS to an SMRT bus, and the fare is higher than $1.90, the fare cap does not apply.
