The Society of Graphical and Allied Trades (SOGAT) was a British trade union formed in 1889.
Brenda Dean was a famous general secretary of SOGAT, especially during its major disputes in the 1970s.
In 1992 it merged with the National Graphical Association to form the Graphical, Paper and Media Union, which subsequently merged with Amicus to become that union's Graphical, Paper and Media industrial sector.

Sour Oil and Gas Advanced Technology (SOGAT) 2004 is to be held in Doha from 22nd to 24th November.

One night I stood arguing with the Sogat tankies over their refusal to print the Wapping Post with a headline carrying the word ‘Fuck'.
New newspapers were indeed launched in the late eighties into the post- Wapping freedom of the digital age, only to discover that the goalposts had been moved and that failure beckoned, not on the production floor through labour costs but in the teeming marketplace itself.

I fnk most of now are waiting for a newer version (theres 50k downloaded this map) but its been so long since Sogat has done anything i would actually question whether he died or not...hes done so many releases but they dont come aONE whole year apart that long.
Somefngs wrong but i just hope that Sogat has somefng in store for all of us...otherwise one of us will have to crack the map and continue his work for him...

If I could turn back the clock, I would never have stayed here, the work was hard, but working with some of the people there was even harder.
It was a closed shop, not just the Sogat Union, but the actual workers were a closed shop too.
You had to have had a relative there to get the job in the first place, they were never advertised locally.

The Society of Graphical and Allied Trades was the result of a series of amalgamations between printing unions which started at the turn of the century and culminated in 1991 with the merger of SOGAT itself with the National Graphical Association (1982) to form the Graphical, Paper and Media Union.
The aim was to achieve a complete merger over a period of time but differences led to in-fighting and in 1972 the two divisions split.
