There are many different versions of the SQL language, but to be in compliance with the ANSI SQL '92 Standard, they must use and support the same major keywords in a similar manner (such as SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, INSERT, WHERE, and others).
In general, Jet SQL is not designed to manage a database, but rather, it is used to retrieve information from a database.
The version of SQL created by Microsoft is called Jet SQL and it is the database engine behind Microsoft's Access.

The SQL3 project aims to add object-oriented (OO) extensions to the SQL-92 syntax, making SQL object-friendly and enabling relational databases to handle more complex data types.
Second, the rules of the Standards committee require SQL3 to be upward-compatible with the current SQL-92 standard.
The solution is an informal agreement between the ODMG and NCITS H2 to make the queries in SQL3 and OQL identical, or at least to overlap each other on most major points.

SQL3 is upward compatible with SQL-92, the current ANSI/ISO database language standard, and is targeted for completion in 1997.
SQL3 extends SQL-92 in many significant ways, one of the major extensions being the addition of an extensible, object-oriented type system.
SQL3 is a new database language standard being developed by both ANSI X3H2 and ISO DBL committees for the last three years.

As we shall show, SQL:1999 is much more than merely SQL-92 plus object technology.

For several years now, you've been hearing and reading about an emerging standard that everybody has been calling SQL3.
