SR West Country Class - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Southern Railway (SR) West Country and Battle of Britain Classes, also known as Bulleid Light Pacifics, are classes of streamlined 4-6-2 steam locomotive.
66 of the class were named after places in the West Country served by the Southern Railway, and the rest took their names from RAF squadrons, airfields, commanders and aircraft from the Battle of Britain.
The SR number followed an adaptation of the UIC classification system where "2" and "1" refer to the number of unpowered leading and trailing axles respectively, and "C" refers to the number of driving axles – in this case three.

West Palm Beach Golf & Country Club
Shortly after it was built, the course was increased to 18 holes; and it prospered as a private club until the collapse of the "Florida Boom" in 1926, with the subsequent closing of banks.
The City of West Palm Beach is very fortunate to have such a wonderful asset, which has cost them so little, and the further fact that they do not have to spend one dime for its operation and improvement.
What this means -in that West Palm Beach is deriving enormous benefits and publicity from the golf course; local and tourist golfers are enjoying one of the finest courses in the country at very low fees; and the City in making money from its Bond interest and has for $140,000.

Bulleid WC/BB 'West Country' and 'Battle of Britain' class 4-6-2
The somewhat unfortunate class name of "Lightweight Pacific" was replaced by "West Country" with, subsequently, engines built for the south-east (though, as it turned out, not necessarily used there) named as "Battle of Britain".
The photograph is undated but as the loco was re-painted in the later BR livery during a general overhaul that began on 30 May 1950 it is obviously between 1948 and then.
Recognising the Southern's close association with the west of England, and also that this class of locomotive would be able to serve the area comprehensively, some 66 were named after places and features in that area whilst some 44 were named after squadrons and other aspects associated with the Battle of Britain.
