The keel for the SS Robert E. Peary was laid at 12:01 AM on November 8, 1942 and 250,000 parts weighing about 14,000,000 pounds were assembled in 4 days, 15 hours and 29 minutes.
During this voyage the SS Robert E. Peary saved American soldiers trapped near the beach of a Pacific island held by the Japanese.
The valiant SS Robert E. Peary was scrapped in June 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland.

 History of the SS President Coolidge, Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu
Launched in February of 1931, The SS President Coolidge was built by Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co in Newport News, Virginia USA.
In 1941, as war time activities increased, the US War Department began to use the President Coolidge for occasional voyages to Honolulu and Manila but it wasn’t until after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 5, 1941 that she was fully commissioned as a transport ship for reinforcing garrisons in the Pacific.
She was stripped of her finery, painted gun-metal grey and by early 1942, the SS President Coolidge had begun her days servicing the South West Pacific.

We found the family arriving at Ellis Island, New York; Elizabeth and the boys John, Andrew and Matthew on 10th June 1907 on the ss 'Caledonia'.
I have found the arrival, July 1926 aboard ss 'Ballarat', of Elizabeth (47yrs) and boys Andrew (21yrs), Matthew (19yrs), Alexander (15yrs) and John's fiance Helen (Nellie) Martin.
Elizabeth Wilson and the boys came to Australia aboard ss ‘Ballarat’ (P&O, 7928 tons register, 979 British and 19 alien passengers) from London by way of South Africa in July 1926.

He arrived at Ellis Island on the SS Caledonia, with his mother and five siblings, on 1 July 1926; they joined Thomson's father, who had left Glasgow for Midland Beach, Staten Island just two days after Thomson's birth.
Although he was responsible for one of the most famous moments in US sports history - The Shot Heard 'Round the World - he has remained relatively unknown in the country of his birth.

There is some confusion from the sworn statement as to where this ship departed from.
passengers taken on board of the said S. Caledonia at New York for which port said (illegible) has arrived..", and later "John D. Allison is Master from Mediterania...".
Note it says "for New York" and "from Mediterania." The column giving months of age was omitted because it was not recorded.
