The Hohenstaufen arrived in Normandy with the II SS Panzer Corps and its sister division, the 10th SS Frundsberg on 23 June.
The 9th SS Panzer division was involved in the brutal fighting around the city of Caen and perhaps most notably the brutal battles to seize and hold the critically important heights along Hill 112.
The leadership of the Hohenstaufen Division and the other SS Divisions, after sustaining heavy casualties and huge losses of equipment during the Ardennes offensive, were once again reorganized to conduct a major offensive; this time against the Soviets in Hungary.

The division saw heavy combat in western France throughout the summer of 1944, where it was severely depleted.
In February 1945 the division was transferred to Berlin and became part of SS Ogf Steiner’s 11.
For the remainder of march and April, the division was pushed back to Sudetenland, and by May, 1945, the obvious conclusion in sight, the division disbanded on their own in an effort to make their way individually trying to avoid Soviet or Partisan capture.

Frundsberg was a well known soldier and hero who fought in the services of the Hapsburg Monarchy during several wars.
The reconaissance battalion from the 9th SS Panzerdivision "Hohenstaufen", temporarily assigned to Kampfgruppe "Frundsberg", attempt to cross the bridge at between 1930 and 2000.
In October, 1943, this division was given the number 10 and bestowed with the offical title of Frundsberg, while the 1st and 2nd SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiments were renumber as the 21st and 22nd Panzergrenadier-Regiments.

The division fought several rear-guard actions during the retreat through France and Belgium, and in early September 1944, the exhausted unit was pulled out of the line for rest and refit near the Dutch city of Arnhem.
The division, along with the majority of the SS Panzer units available, was to take part in Operation Frühlingserwachen (Spring Awakening), the offensive near Lake Balaton aimed at securing the Hungarian oilfields and relieving the forces trapped in Budapest by the Soviets.
Hohenstaufen was involved in the ferocious fighting to escape the Soviet encirclement, and on 6 April the tattered remnants of the division emerged from the trap.

This division was chosen because not only was it Germany's elite fighting formation but it also fought on every major front in W.W.II (excluding North Africa) making participation of this unit at any W.W. II event historically acceptable.
Idea to form this unit came in 2002 when it was realised that with all the Waffen SS divisions that exist, no one has reenacted the Galicia division.

According to a German Gunther Otto at Nuremburg trials and in his deposition he stated the Wiking Division gathered some 60 Jews and made them run a Gauntlet where they were beat with rifles, at the end of the gauntlet they were shot by officers of the Wiking Division and dumped into a bomb crater.
Something that is interesting however is that the Heer and SS apparently also occupied Tarnopol around the same time, and on 11 July 1941 Einsatzkommando 4b reported the deaths and execution of 727 Jews in Tarnopol.
It is possible that the Wiking divisions executions of the 60 Jews in Lvov and the Wehrmacht/EK 4b assisted executions in Tarnolpol could have been in the same report or have been reported as all of them being done by the Wiking division.

It was an important victory because it told us that 10th SS had lost the plot, and probably had no idea that 15th was about to hit them.
Baquepuis was a good example of the peak breakthrough of 10SS, and indeed, 2nd SS Korps.
It's true that relations between our divisions was less than stellar, but that was mainly due to the fact folks in 9SS thought 10SS was not giving as good as they got on the battlefield.

The poor chap with the "13" was an SS-Sturmmann with the 10th SS Panzer Division (Frundsberg); the last soldbuch entry was in July 1944 so I suspect he was a casualty in Normandy.
The 31b was for a SS-Sturmmann with the 12th SS Panzer Division (Hitlerjugend); service in Normandy and the Ardennes - wounded on 8 January 1945 and still in hospital at war's end.
The 21/24 and 31 were for a SS-Funker with the 17th SS Panzer-Grenadier Division (GvB).

Another very rarely encountered piece of SS cloth, the Enlisted Man’s band for 10.SS-Panzerdivision was introduced in late 1943, and produced in the machine woven form by the BeVo firm of Wuppertal.
It was woven in a dull grey thread with a very slight brownish tint.
Other than the Hitlerjugend cufftitle, this is perhaps the most scarcely encountered cufftitle among the first 15 established SS Divisions.
