Topic: SS Statendam 1957

  Cabin Class Collectibles - Purser's Office H-L
One of the last passenger lists from Statendam, as she would be laid up a mere four months later, and then lost to a German bombing raid during the War.
A nice plan from Statendam, opening to a 12 page booklet 19" in width, and featuring several fl and white photos, including a very nice portrait of the ship at sea.
The portrait featured is that of the Statendam of 1914, a vessel which was destined, because of the war, never to enter service as a Holland-America Line ship.

In 1957, when the SS STATENDAM debuted, she became an instant hit on North Atlantic crossings from Rotterdam to New York and in seasonal cruising.
STATENDAM was mainly a tourist class vessel, but one of the keys to her success was the quality of her accommodation, which aspired to first class standards.
When STATENDAM was rebuilt for permanent cruise service in 1972, most of her public areas were vastly restyled.

In 1957, when Holland America Line's SS STATENDAM debuted, she became an instant hit on North Atlantic crossings from Rotterdam to New York and in seasonal cruising.
STATENDAM was rebuilt for permanent cruise service in 1972.  The transformation was so vast that she was dubbed "The Cinerella Ship" in HAL puclicity materials.
Very little of her original decor survived the refit, which saw the complete rebuilding of her Promenade Deck.  However, in certain parts of the ship,  some traces of her 1950s traditional elegance remained.  The key unspoilt areas were the indoor pool, the cinema, and the purser's lobby.
