		The process by which SSAB members are selected is crucial to the credibility of the group and the credibility of agency decisions.
		To be effective, a SSAB should endeavor to be representative of all persons and groups who see themselves as affected or potentially affected by the environmental restoration and waste management issues and other issues that, in the board's view, are relevant to environmental quality at the site.
		SSAB members should live or work in the affected community or be impacted by the environmental management program.

		At the May 7 SSAB meeting, board members agreed the bylaws should be changed to reflect the Advisory Board elections should be held concurrently with the general election in November, but at a different location.
		At the 2000 SSAB election it was reported previously 757 residents participated in that election.
		SSAB was required to change its election date following the 2000 elections after two residents sent a complaint letter to the Lyon County Commissioners charging voter irregularities.

		In general, the Chairs were concerned that the impact of SSAB recommendations is poorly tracked.
		Lisa Crawford stated that she felt is was inappropriate for the DOE headquarters presenters at the SSAB Chairs meeting to place blame on a past DOE employee.

		In that meeting the SSAB noted that 9 applications had been deemed to be non-responsive for failure to comply with the grant submission directions.
		The SSAB did consider “across the board” reductions but felt this undermined the 2-tier system approved by the AFC in February 2001.
		The SSAB felt that funding some programs at less than the amount requested could result in an unviable program and that they did not have the expertise to be able to evaluate a program’s viability if funded at less than the requested amount.

		Results: Of the mutants tested, mutants of ssaB, cshA, and msrA failed to induce human platelet aggregation in vitro, showed reduced adhesion to sHA, and significantly decreased biofilm formation (>50% reduction) on polystyrene surfaces.
		Conclusions: Expression of the surface proteins, SsaB and CshA and MsrA is required for S. sanguis strains to induce platelet aggregation.
