Tridents are the sea-based "leg" of the U.S. strategic triad-boomers, land-based ICBMs, and SSBNs --and account for more than 54 percent of all U.S. strategic assets.  These Trident missile submarines are our nation's leading nuclear deterrent, but use only 34 percent of our strategic budget and 1.5 percent of naval personnel.
The remaining submarines of the class carry the improved Trident II D-5 ballistic missile.  Stealth is the key to the SSBN survivability, and OHIO class submarines are among the quietest nuclear-powered submarines ever built.

I served aboard the USS Nathan Hale (SSBN 623-G) from Sep 75 to Apr 79 and found your photo gallery a happy walk down memory lane.
I was actually attached to the USS Benjamin Franklin SSBN 640(B) when she was in the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

In October 1988, CDR PERRY reported to USS TENNESSEE (SSBN-734) where he served as Engineer Officer.
While onboard, TENNESSEE was commissioned, completed the first Trident homeport change to King's Bay, Georgia, Trident II D-5 Production Evaluation Missile testing, the first Trident II D-5 DASO, and made one strategic deterrent patrol.
In August 1990, he reported to the staff of the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations (Undersea Warfare (OP-02)) where he served as Head of the Arctic Warfare section in the Attack Submarine Division.
