  The STAR detector
The Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR) is a detector which specializes in tracking the thousands of particles produced by each ion collision at RHIC.
The goal of STAR is to obtain a fundamental understanding of the structure of interactions between particles called hadrons, which are made of quarks and gluons.
STAR is located at the 6 o'clock position on the RHIC ring.

NERSC 2001 Annual Report: Science Highlights: High Energy and Nuclear Physics
The STAR detector (Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory is a large acceptance collider detector designed to study the collision of heavy nuclei at very high energy in the laboratory.
The existence of the quark-gluon plasma is predicted by lattice QCD calculations, and this state of matter is thought to be important in the dynamics of the early universe and the core of neutron stars.
STAR detects and characterizes a large fraction of these secondaries in order to reconstruct a meaningful picture of each individual collision.

Star is located at distance of 1 light year from the observer and Star B is located at a distance of 10 light years from the observer.
What is the flux on this detector from Star B? Since Star and star B are identical then their intrinsic energy outputs are identical.
Star C has an intrinsic energy output 10 times that of Star A or Star B. Let's place Star C at a distance of 1 Light year (the same distance as star A).

Roll the STAR detector from the WAH to the AB during the week of May 27th, and connect AC power and MCW/TPC water.
If the RICH is going back into the STAR detector, it would have to be installed into the magnet from the East side as soon as the STAR detector is back in the AB, prior to assembly of the SVT/SSD installation platform on the East side of STAR.
With the STAR detector in the AB we are back on schedule with the West BEMC fibering effort and in parallel installing the SVT/SSD on the East side, and the PMD and lower EEMC in the WAH.

The centerpiece of our DOE supported research program is the STAR project, an international collaboration of many institutions engaged since 1992 in the development and construction of the STAR Detector.
The primary objective of the STAR experiment is to discover, identify, and characterize a transient state of matter called "quark-gluon plasma", which is predicted to be formed under extreme conditions when the most fundamental particles of matter — quarks — are released from the gluons that bind them into protons and neutrons.
The $60M STAR detector has been nearly completed, and is installed at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

A serious drawback of this detector is that it demands corrections measured for the distance used, therefore we recommend these standard distances for which the corrections have been measured.
This detector is recommended for SAXS measurements and heating experiments due to it speed and easy use.
This results in the fact that the detector is every time in a slightly different position and the position of the primary beam on the detector needs to be determined after every measurement separately.

First Results From Brookhaven Lab's New Collider
Much like the explorers of centuries past, keenly searching for signs of a new land on an unfamiliar horizon, the experimenters at RHIC are straining to see evidence of both expected scientific landmarks and new phenomena, predicted but not yet observed.
In particular, the scientists are searching for evidence of a transition to a new phase of nuclear matter called the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), which scientists think last existed at the beginning of the universe and evolved into the matter of today¹s world.
RHIC's four experimental teams -- one for each of the collider's detectors -- have just begun to focus their "microscopes" on these first collisions.
