  Sturmgewehr 44
The Sturmgewher 44 was the world's first true assault rifle and was introduced by the German army late in WWII.
It was the direct inspiration for the Russian AK47, the most prolific gun in the world.
The wisdom of the assault rifle concept has been born out in that, with the exception of a few specialized positions such as snipers, virtually every soldier in every army today carries a descendent of the SG44.

Sturmgewehr 44 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Maschinenpistole 43, Maschinenpistole 44 and Sturmgewehr 44 (MP43, MP44 and StG44, respectively) were selective-fire automatic rifles developed in Nazi Germany during World War II as part of the Maschinenkarabiner (machine carbine) program.
The Sturmgewehr 44 and its predecessors were developed in Hitler's Germany in the early stages of the Second World War.
As for the Sturmgewehr itself, it remained in use with the East German Nationale Volksarmee until it was eventually replaced with variants of the AK-47 assault rifle.

The way above mentioned magazine pouches are manufactured also shows a mix of various colour nuances in the tan fabric, as well as the side flaps for the lids, made in presstof - a kind of cardboard-paper material to substitude leather.
The connection strap is of stronger material (what might have been available at present moment) but the straps on the front are made of nice light brown leather - as observed on similar items manufactured earlier in the war, when resources and material was not so limited.

The Sturmgewehr 44 made history as the first real assault rifle; in fact, the term "assault rifle" itself is a literal translation of this weapon's designation.
In December of that same year the weapon was given the suggestive name Sturmgewehr or Sturmgewehr 44, abbreviated StG 44 or StGw 44.
The StGw 44 features a 30-round curved magazine and could be fitted with all known accessories: it could use bayonets or silencers as well as the Schiessbecher rifle grenade device or the ZF 4 scope.

 Sturmgewehr StG 44 Assault Rifle
Generally regarded as the 'Father of Assault Rifles' the Sturmgewehr 44 was based on the previously developed Maschinenpistole MP 43.
German SS troops were the first to be armed with the rifle, with many being used in the Battle of the Ardennes in the West Front, though a bulk of the success was found in the East Front against the Soviets.
The general idea of the curved barrel was to provide tank crews the ability to fire at enemy troops near or on their tanks through weapon portholes, thus keeping the crew and tank safe from being overrun.

Realizing that the full-size 7.92mm Mauser round was more powerful than necessary for the ranges at which modern soldiers fought, the German military designed the 7.92mm Kurz round to produce a universal weapon that would replace all rifles, submachine guns, and light machine guns.
The StG 44 was never as successful a design as the German military believed it would be, but remained a solid, reliable rifle well-suited to the kind of house-to-house fighting the Germans faced in the last days of the war.
Less successful was a variant of the StG 44 rifle fitted with telescopic sight and issued as a sniper weapon.

 SHOEI MACHINEN PISTOLE 44 AEG
The MP 44 was developed in the Second World War by Germany to replace both the rifle and the machine pistol, (sub-machine gun); a new short cartridge of standard rifle calibre was developed for the gun.
The theory was that the maximum engagement range for infantry in the European and Western Russian theatres was only 800 metres, the standard rifle cartridge with a maximum range of 2400 metres was considered too powerful and would be restricted to machine guns.
The MP 44 model is impressive and heavy, weighing 5.21Kg compared to the unloaded weight of the real gun of 5.22KG.

The Sturmgewehr 44 (StG44) was the world's first truly effective assault rifle.
It was introduced by the German army late in WWII, and if the war had continued another year, the SG44 would have replaced every other rifle, light machine gun, and submachine gun in the Wehrmacht, including the antique Karabiner 98k and MP38.
The Germans intended to re-equip all of their infantry with the MP-44 (as a replacement for both the submachine guns and bolt-action/semiautomatic rifles).

Originally called the Maschinenpistole 43, the Stg 44 appeared toward the end of World War II, and while it was issued in some numbers, fortunately for the Allies, it never hit the big time.
Some Stgs were even fitted with a Krummer Lauf barrel extension that allowed the gun to be fired around corners.

The Maschinenpistole 43, Maschinenpistole 44, Sturmgewehr 44 (MP43, MP44, Stg44) were names for a light automatic rifle developed for Nazi Germany during World War II as part of the Maschinenkarabiner (machine carbine) program and developed from the Mkb 42(H).
It was produced in several variants, an "I"-version for infantry use, a "P" version for use in tanks (to cover the dead areas in the close range around the tank, to defend against assaulting infantry), versions with 30°, 45°, 60° and 90° bends, a version for the StGw 44 and one for the MG 42.
The StG's effect on post-war arms design was more limited than the widespread adoption of the term assault-rifle suggests.
