 physics - Subroc
A Subroc was a type of submarine launched rocket intended for use as an anti-submarine weapon.
Developed in 1965, the Subroc was never used in anger and all were decommissioned following the end of the Cold War in 1989.
Subroc was not strictly an anti-submarine weapon: it was thought that the noisy alpha class submarine of the Soviet Union would serve as a beacon as to the location of a Soviet battle group, and a large-enough nuclear warhead would not only destroy the submarine, but all accompanying warships as well.

The Subroc missile was a submarine launched, inertially guided nuclear depth charge for longrange destruction of hostile submarines.
Subroc was the first tactical weapon system for underwater-to-air-to-underwater attack.
Once ejected from a torpedo tube, and a safe distance from the firing sub, the rocket of the Subroc ignited, the missile pitched upward, blasting from the sea, and flying at supersonic speed dropped its warhead that reentered the sea.

The principal Subroc used by the US Navy was the Goodyear UUM-44 Subroc.
Developed in 1965, the Subroc was never used in combat and all were decommissioned following the end of the Cold War in 1989.
Subroc was not strictly an anti-submarine weapon: it was thought that the noisy Alfa class submarine of the Soviet Union would serve as a beacon as to the location of a Soviet battle group, and a sufficiently large nuclear warhead would destroy not only the submarine, but all accompanying warships as well.

Cosmik Debris Magazine Presents Mass Appeal Madness: January 2003
Subroc was a deejay in New York whose flair for painting with sound was starting to give KMD some well-deserved consideration.
KMD (which stands for "a positive Kause in a Much Damaged society") were an unthreatening crew, but had enough skills to make the aggressive rhetoric of some of their contemporaries seem like hollow posturing.
When Subroc died the album wasn't finished, and the confusion, chaos, anger, and pain is more than evident.

KMD is a group, and the dead rapper in question is Subroc.
Not that the lyrics themselves are nostalgic (more braggin' and boastin'), but we can at least hear the lyrics in between the sample for once, over a warm drumbeat and subtle bass.
It's an apt sonic memorial for an album whose photo tribute to Subroc shows the rapper wild-eyed and holding a machete next to a barren tree, looking like he's up for some late-night drug-fueled lumberjacking.

Anyone familiar with Brand Nubian would have instantly identified with the subject matter the two emcees of K.M.D. rapped about, hence their proposed artwork seemed as appropriate to the duo itself as to anyone who knew who K.M.D. were was back in 1993.
It's a real treat to hear Zev before he was MF Doom, back when he was a young, hungry emcee yet to experience the tragedy of Subroc's death in a car accident which happened shortly after the album was recorded.
Subroc would never be content if he was considered any less of an emcee than his brother, and the brag raps on his Jamaican influenced solo adventure clearly warrant any claims of dopeness he may express.

Album description via Amazon: KMD (Kausing Much Damage, or a positive Kause in a Much Damaged society) was a Hip Hop group in the early 90s perhaps best known for launching the career of acclaimed MC/Producer MF Doom (known during his KMD tenure as Zev Love X).
Their political outlook was similar to the group Brand Nubian, who guested on Hood; however, the style was more comical and included a great deal of clips from old children's recordings, mostly notably a sample of the Seaseme Street character Bert on the single "Who Me?".

The term “3-D Graphics” in video games usually refers to the computer's ability to quickly compute and then draw a single perspective from a mathematical database representing three dimensions (height, width, and depth).
However, in Subroc 3-D, which features underwater and air action in a clever naval military format, 3-D refers to an illusion of depth created by stereoscopic imaging techniques (similar in effect to 3-D movies).
Neither Subroc 3-D nor more recent efforts such as Nintendo's Virtual Boy have been able to ignite public interest in stereoscopic videogames.
