SUSE Linux - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
SUSE Linux was originally based on Slackware Linux; In mid-1992, Softlanding Linux System (SLS) was founded by Peter McDonald, which was the first comprehensive distribution to contain elements such as X and TCP/IP.
S.u.S.E was founded in late 1992 as a UNIX consulting group, which among other things regularly released software packages that included SLS and Slackware, and printed UNIX/Linux manuals.
SUSE has the ability to detect and install drivers for many common winmodems shipped with OEM desktop and laptop systems (such modems are designed to use Windows-specific software to operate).

 Review of SuSE 8.1 Professional - OSNews.com
The SuSE people were very kind to send us the Professional version of SuSE 8.1, but unfortunately, I received it 10 days later after it arrived in the apartment's complex.
Searching at SuSE's knowledge base, I found that they have specific problems when loading from some DVD drives and they do not know yet the cause of the problem.
SuSE loaded GRUB in graphical mode and was presenting me three options, one to load the normal SuSE, one in safe mode, and one option for the "other" Linux it found installed (Red Hat 8).

 Review: SuSE Linux 9.2 LiveCD - OSNews.com
Having used SUSE 9.1 for a while now, I was more than looking forward to this new release, so I downloaded and ran SUSE 9.2 LiveCD on my Dell Inspiron, and gave it a try.
SUSE, which has switched with this release to X.org, started X with the generic nVidia modules flawlessly, and I was soon staring at the all-too-familiar KDE desktop, with the some what naive desktop wallpaper SUSE seems to prefer.
Mind you, SUSE was painfully slow to start on my box, especially when compared with Knoppix or Kanotix on the same hardware.
