Saab is an aviation and defence concern based in Sweden, founded 1937 in Linköping.

Saab Ericsson Space is a joint venture with Ericsson, designing the on board computers used in the Ariane 5 rockets used by the European Space Agency.

SAAB used the Goblin engine to provide the Flygvapnet (Swedish Air Force) with the first indigenous Swedish jet fighter by fitting the engine to the innovative J 21 pusher-prop fighter -- the "J" stood for "Jakt (Fighter)", by the way -- developed during the war.
SAAB engineers had no knowledge of the P-80 when they drew up the R-101 design, and when they found out about the Shooting Star they realized they were several years behind the times.
SAAB engineers worked with their de Havilland counterparts and determined that the Ghost could be fit into the new fighter design.

Among Swedish aircraft, the Saab 29 has the rare distinction of serving in combat, when both fighter and reconnaissance versions were sent to the Congo in the early 1960's, to support UN operations against Katangan rebels during the chaotic period that accompanied the Congo's gaining its' independence from Belgium.
