Saab, with its history of two-strokes and turbos, was as weird as any of them - look up Saab Sonnet on the web if you don't believe me.
The Saab 9-5 uses four cylinders, front drive and, in the case of the Aero, a powerful turbocharger.
The ignition key remains in the centre console and the instrument panel is unchanged, retaining the characteristic asymmetric speedometer (gaps between numbers shrink over 140km/h) and the fl cockpit display which switches off all instruments apart from the speedometer.

Saab enthusiasts, like my part-Swedish wife, screamed bloody murder when GM acquired Saab in the early Nineties, but this car clearly demonstrates that not only is the Saab character alive and well, but the vehicles have been greatly improved.
This is Saab's answer to those who dislike the tidal-wave effect brought on by large turbos and their inherent delay (or lag) when the driver hits the loud pedal.

The 1960 model year 93 received the designation 93F, the F denoting new front hinged doors, a feature of the 93, the GT750 and later the 95.
The 93F represented the final year of production of the 93 and provided the opportunity to run down stocks of old components prior to the introduction of the, as yet unannounced, Saab 96.
Only 600 or so Saab 93F models were built, each with mudguards at the rear wheels and a larger capacity cooling system.

When I contacted Saab Customer service they said I could have it towed to a Saab dealership and it would cost me $300 (according to the dealer) to have the car evaluated diagnostically, even though all they need to do is confirm that the first mechanic was correct in his assessment.
I love the Saab for the way it drives and the efficient use of space the hatchback provides, it is why I purchased a second one, but the dismal response of the company to so many people with the same complaint makes me determined to look elsewhere for my next vehicle purchase.
Then after speaking with Saab and explaining that a couple of my oil changes were done free of charge by a mechanic friend of mine, I was told that if I could get receipts that had the mileage, amount and type of oil and filter used, that would be acceptable.
