The south-west German state of Saarland has proposed Schwarzbruch/Eft -Hellendorf in the northern part of the state as a suitable location for its first special waste landfill: this was one of three proposed sites.
In July 1993, the state's special waste treatment and disposal firm, Sonderabfall -Entsorgung Saar GmbH, submitted its planning application for the landfill to the Saarland environment ministry.
The facility will be a landfill above ground with a final volume of about 1.1 million m3 of waste.
