		Sabaneta debe su nombre a la expresión derivada de sabana, sustantivo diminutivo que significa lugar suave y plano, sin vegetación arbórea, fértil para pastar ganados o plantar un bello pueblo.
		Sabaneta estuvo habitada inicialmente por los indios Anaconas (aborígenes provenientes del otro lado de la Aná), quienes se radicaron en la ladera oriental, partiendo del cerro de Pan de Azúcar.
		Sabaneta se constituyó en corregimiento de Envigado por Acuerdo Nº 11 de enero de 1899 y fue don Venancio Díaz Vásquez su primer inspector.
