Sabarkantha is a district in Northeast of Gujarat state of India.
Sabarkantha District has a population of 2,082,531 of which 10.81% were urban as of 2001.
Sabarkantha District is bounded by Rajasthan state to the northeast, Banaskantha and Mehsana districts to the west, Gandhinagar and Kheda districts to the south and Panchmahal District to the east.

AHMEDABAD: If one were to go by the difference in reception Sabarkantha gave to BJP candidate Upendra Trivedi and Congress candidate Madhusudan Mistry at Himmatnagar when they went to file their nominations, one could bet on who might win.
But the irony is that of the 11.5 lakh voters in Sabarkantha, at least 35 per cent are tribals, followed by the Chaudhary-Patels who comprise 20 per cent of the votebank.
Of the Assembly constituencies in Sabarkantha LS seat, Vadgam, Danta, Khedbrahma and Bhiloda were in the favour of the Congress in the 1998 elections, while Idar and Himmatnagar and Modasa went in favour of the BJP candidate Kanubhai Patel.

 Disillusioned voters stay home
While the Sabarkantha Lok Sabha constituency recorded about 40 per cent turnout which is over 20 per cent less than last elections, Sabarmati Vidhan Sabha constituency reported only about 33 per cent voter turnout which is about 27 per cent less than last elections.
Barring reports of skirmishes and tension in Sabarkantha, where the BJP and the Congress clashed with each other and the BJP workers allegedly set a Muslim·s house on fire, no untoward incidents were reported.
Sabarkantha constituency faced a by election following the death of state Congress president Amarsinh Chaudhary·s wife Nisha Gamit and Sabarmati constituency faced a by election following the resignation of BJP MLA Yatin Oza, who could not bridge his differences with his party.

 Gandhinagar Archdiocese
In 1960, Gujarat was established as a separate state and Gandhinagar was developed as the state capital.

The state government will use electronic voting machines during the Sabarkantha Parliamentary elections and Sabarmati Assembly by-elections scheduled to be held on September 20 and will insist on the use of identity cards issued by the election commission for voting.
State electoral officer Gurucharan Singh giving details of the voters and previous election to reporters on Monday said there are a total of 3,03,540 voters in the Sabarmati constituency.

A former minister in the Rashtriya Janata Party government in Gujarat was injured in a clash between the Congress and BJP supporters during the polling for the Sabarkantha Lok Sabha seat byelection today.
Barring some other stray incidents, polling for both the Sabarkantha parliamentary and the Sabarmati State Assembly seats ended peacefully amidst strong security measures in view of the large number of ``sensitive booths'' identified by the election commission in the two constituencies.
