THE WEEKLY SABBATH: SATURDAY OR SUNDAY?
For example, if a foreigner were caught collecting firewood on the Sabbath in order to keep his family from extreme discomfort due to cold weather, he would be tried and probably executed if found guilty.
With all of these references to the observance of the Saturday Sabbath found in the history of the Jewish people, the life of Christ, and the practices of disciples and other followers of Christ, one would naturally assume that Christian churches would have continued with the Jewish Sabbath.
Sabbath observance was noted in Wales as late as 1115 CE.

Sabbath (witchcraft) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Christian folklore, the Sabbath (also known as "Witch's Sabbath") was a gathering supposed to have been celebrated by Satanists, witches and warlocks to honor the Devil, offend God, Jesus, the sacraments, the cross, and perform unholy rites.
It was believed that the Sabbath commenced at midnight and ended at dawn, beginning with a procession, continuing with a banquet, then a Black Mass, and culminating with an orgy in which non-marital or sexual intercourse with demons in male or female form was practised.
It is thus possible that the Sabbath gatherings were largely a myth — a convenient excuse to condemn heretics or anyone who, for one reason or another, fell in the disfavor of the ruling authorities.

This intrusion of the incubus in the domain of witchcraft was probably due to the attitude of the church towards magic.
In the first half of this second period, witchcraft was still superstition for the canon law, a civil wrong for the secular law; later, although these ideas still persisted, all magic was held to be heresy; its reality and heretical nature was expressly maintained by Thomas Aquinas.

 Witchcraft - Summary
Witchcraft was, in fact, a form of guarantee for democratic conditions and equality, since fear of witchcraft served as a protection from injury.
Malevolent witchcraft which ended before the district court was usually brought about by a man, and we may therefore take it that during the wars of the century's first decades the spread of accusations of witchcraft was prevented by war itself.
Magic became a worse threat than witchcraft to public authority because, although many of the latter's representatives feared illnesses and injuries to cattle caused by witches, there was no threat from witchcraft to the growing strength of the administrative machinery.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Witchcraft
But in witchcraft, as commonly understood, there is involved the idea of a diabolical pact or at least an appeal to the intervention of the spirits of evil.
In the Holy Scripture references to witchcraft are frequent, and the strong condemnations of such practices which we read there do not seem to be based so much upon the supposition of fraud as upon the "abomination" of the magic in itself.
Supposing that the belief in witchcraft were an idle superstition, it would be strange that the suggestion should nowhere be made that the evil of these practices only lay in the pretending to the possession of powers which did not really exist.

Although witchcraft was used as a scapegoat for any bit of bad luck from a shipwreck to a lost kitchen utensil, it was most tempting to use it as a theory of illness.
The eventual appearance of the witches' sabbath in English trials has been explained in the past by claiming that the Protestants who were in exile on the continent during the reign of Queen Mary, brought back with them the fears and theories of continental witchcraft when they returned after the coronation of Elizabeth.

The young children were taken to the edge of a stream--for the scene was generally chosen on the banks of a stream--and white wands were placed in their hands, and they were entrusted with the care of the toads which were kept there, and which were of importance in the subsequent operations of the witches.

‘Witchcraft’, is a record which conjures up the macabre essence of vintage Pentagram and, of course Black Sabbath whilst incorporating influences as wide apart as the Jethro Tullesque folky prog of "Her Sisters They Were Weak", and the bludgen riffing style of early 70’s Bang in "I Want You to Know".
Witchcraft mastermind, Magnus Pelander has been an active member of the Swedish Doom scene for some time now despite his youthful age, and initially started the band as a tribute to former 13th Floor Elevators legend Roky Erickson and vintage Doom rocker Bobby Liebling of cult legends Pentagram.
While many of their, more generic, contemporaries are more conservative in their approach, Witchcraft are a band that can swing effortlessly from orthodox doom to blues, folk and jazz whilst always remaining shrouded in the cloak of influence from some of the more obscure moments of the 70’s cult rock underground.

 WITCHCRAFT HAUNTED AMERICA TOURS
Witchcraft, in various historical, anthropological, religious and mythological contexts, is the use of certain kinds of alleged supernatural or magical powers.
Practices and beliefs that have been termed "witchcraft" do not constitute a single identifiable religion, since they are found in a wide variety of cultures, both present and historical; however these beliefs do generally involve religious elements dealing with spirits or deities, the afterlife, magic and ritual.
Under the monotheistic religions of the Levant (primarily Christianity, and Islam), witchcraft came to be associated with heresy, rising to a fever pitch among the Catholics, Protestants, and secular leadership of the European Late Medieval/Early Modern period.

When, in 1575, two men were under interrogation on suspicion of practising witchcraft, the judges were treated to stories of magic, wild nocturnal rides, and secret rites that seemed to fit perfectly with their belief in a horrible Witches' Sabbath.
Not only did this theory run counter to accepted conceptions of witchcraft, it was also at odds with the common view of popular religion in medieval and early modern Europe.
So, the two levels you mentioned must be viewed together: to begin with I focus on the provenance of the belief in a Witches' Sabbath, in one specific area and over a limited period of time, through the medium of concrete and datable historical events.
