The exhibition was organised by Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the museum "Jews in Latvia" and the Institute of Latvian History at the University of Latvia.
The exhibition traces the history of Latvia's Jewish community from the 16th to the beginning of the 21st centuries; it deals with World War II, the Holocaust and rescuers of Jews in Latvia, as well as activities in Latvia in the context of research and remembrance of the Holocaust.
Heretofore, the research focus of Latvia's Commission of Historians was on the period 1940 to 1956 and the topics of in-depth study were crimes against humanity, the Holocaust, deportations un the Soviet regime, collaboration, resistance movements, Latvian legion, economic policies of the occupation regimes, tenets of historiography.

On 14 May 2004 an exhibition, "Latvia's Jewish Community: history, tragedy, rebirth" that was organised by Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the museum "Jews in Latvia" and the Institute of Latvian History, opens in the town of Sabile.
Andris Teikmanis, Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia is to speak at the opening.
The exhibition shows the history of Latvia's Jewish community from the 16th until the beginning of the 20th century, World War II, Holocaust, rescuers of the Jews in Latvia, and the political attitude of the State today which promotes research of the Holocaust and commemoration of its victims.

May 24, the Latvia's History Teachers' Association has published a handbook for teachers "The Controversial History" which is the first teaching aid on history issues adapted for the bilingual instruction programme.
The co-operation project between Latvia and Sweden on conservation and restoration of a number of historical buildings in Latvia was initiated in 1999 and includes the restoration of three unique historical sites - Ungurmuiza manor, Ramava manor and the Sabile synagogue in northern Latvia.

One of the oldest and most picturesque cemeteries of Latvia, tombstones date from in the 17th or 18th century.
I found the Jewish cemetery in Talsi, Latvia where my wife and I photographed all the gravestones that were still legible I promised copies of the photos to the Jewish Museum in Riga.
Cemetery is at the boarder of Estonia and Latvia.
