NationMaster - Encyclopedia: FV 432 AFV
An armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) is a military vehicle, equipped with protection against hostile attacks and often mounted weapons.
Sabre is a variation of the Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked), featuring the turret from a Fox reconnaisance vehicle mounted on the hull of a Scorpion.
The FV 432 AFV is one of the British Army's FV 430 series of armoured fighting vehicles, and the most common variant used for transporting infantry on the battlefield.

As from 1955 the next 20 Sabre Mk 31s, A94-923/942, were powered with the CAC Avon Mk 20, had an extended leading-edge, additional fuel cells, and fitments for drop-tanks, bombs, and rockets.
Sabre aircraft were used by No 3 and 77 Squadrons, operating from Butterworth, in Malaya during the Communist uprising in the 1950s.
The Sabre was replaced as the RAAF's frontline fighter by the Mirage IIIO in the early 1960s and was officially retired from RAAF Service on 31 July 1971.

 T2-A1 Sabre - TRO42
The T2-A1 Sabre is a light, turretless AFV with moderate speed and armor.
Since the Sabre should always be facing its enemy during combat, frontal armor is much heavier than side and rear armor.
Sabres can be found in nearly every Periphery Army and Mercenary unit in the Inner Sphere.

The 'overrun effect' is acheived by moving an AFV adjacent to an infantry squad and then blasting it.
If an AFV is immobilized and it's suppression exceeds the level required to retreat, then the crew will abandon the vehicle and the crew will retreat.
Turretless AFVs are allowed a maximum of one facing change in order to perform opportunity fire, once this once this has occured they may only fire at targets in their front arc for the remainder of the enemy orders phase.

Missing Links AFV Club British CVR(T) FV101 Scorpion Review
The Scorpion is now available from AFV Club, and is basically the same kit as the Revell version with the advantage of being priced the same as the Scimitar and noticeably cheaper than the Revell version which usually costs UK modellers £23.50 or so at full price.
AFV Club's Scorpion kit does include two types of sprocket and idler, and apart from the box it has a new instruction sheet which is similar to but not identical to the Scimitar version, even where the construction is the same.
Scorpion, Scimitar and Sabre by John Prigent (Museum Ordnance Special 23) has many useful photos of all three vehicles, mostly in their later forms and not with the early style of bins as in the kit.

Monogram’s Super Sabre, while not an exceptionally great kit, is nonetheless a good kit, worthy of any modeler’s attention if their interests run to modern jets.

 Light Tank Sabre
With the withdrawal from service of FV101 CVR(T) Scorpion and also the Fox armoured car, Sabre was created by marrying modified Fox turrets with Scorpion hulls.
The resulting vehicle has the curve-sided turret of Fox with the same 30 mm Rarden Canon as Scimitar.
It can be distinguished from Scimitar by the turret shape and by the coaxial chain gun.

Does anyone know why the Scorpion light tank was retired and replaced with the Sabre thing that to me does pretty much the same job as a Scimitar.
With the emphasis on mechanised/armoured assault in Soviet doctrine of the 70's and 80's, the need for infantry fire support was deemed secondary to the requirement to defend against enemy AFV's.
Plus there was a lot of logic in retaining only one other AFV main weapon besides the 120mm.

A brigade consists normally of two or three infantry battalions, grouped perhaps with an armoured regiment (actually a battalion in size).
On the subject of armoure, a Troop (platoon sized unit) can consist of 3-4 vehicles depending on role (Armoured Recce or MBT), a Squadron (company equivalent, consists normally of 3 Troops plus an HQ element and Light Aid Detachment), and a Regiment is three 'Sabre' Squadrons plus an HQ Squadron and a support Squadron.
Of course, this varies hugely depending on unit SOP, the task to be undertaken, casualties, attachments, detachments, etc.
