Sabrina (1995 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sabrina is a 1995 film adapted by Barbara Benedek and David Rayfiel, based on the 1954 screenplay, which in turn was based upon a play entitled Sabrina Fair.
It was directed by Sydney Pollack, and stars Harrison Ford as Linus Larrabee, Julia Ormond as Sabrina and Greg Kinnear as David Larrabee.
In the 1995 version, the protagonist, Linus Larrabee, is described by Sabrina (quoting what she has heard from others) as "the world's only living heart donor.

 Magical "Sabrina' reborn
Sabrina, the chauffeur's jewel of a daughter, is in love with the family's playboy son and is sent to Paris to forget him and learn to cook.
Sabrina was Audrey Hepburn, then 24, an adorable gamine, the sort of person so enchanting that sending her to Paris would be more likely to have an intoxicating effect on Paris than on her.
Sabrina's ineptitude at haute cuisine was telegraphed in quick scenes of her failing to crack eggs and produce gravity-defying souffles for her imperious cooking teacher.

 [No title]
SABRINA By Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Musing about "Sabrina," I formed some notions about why the plot is so powerful: It gives us the myths of Cinderella and the Ugly Duckling, inserts some powerfully murky Freudian impulses, and wraps them up in a romantic comedy.
But then Sabrina returns from Paris, David is so entranced by her that he forgets Elizabeth, and Linus sees that it is up to him to sidetrack David's dangerous obsession by seducing Sabrina himself.
And Pollack is not shy about the fairy-tale aspect; when Sabrina perches in her tree in an early scene, spying on her beloved David, the movie asks us to believe that she could overhear his small talk on the dance floor, and we do.

Sabrina goes to Paris to become a chef in 1954 while Sabrina becomes a photographer's assistant in 1995.
Sabrina 1995 is actually a funnier movie to me. The sparks between Ford and Ormond are more noticeable than with Hepburn and Bogart who reported disliked each other.

 Qwipster's Movie Reviews - Review: Sabrina (1995)
SABRINA isn't all bad though, and in fact, for the first 90 minutes it's actually quite well done, with good characterizations, nice locale work, and solid acting from the three leads.
The downsides to the film are the excessive length (2 hours and 7 minutes) for a romantic comedy and the disingenuous ending, which oddly enough just doesn't feel right enough to make this really a feel-good film.
SABRINA is a bit of an overlooked film that will likely age well, and while it won't achieve the classic status of the original, it probably will be seen in a much better light by today's viewers than at the time of it's release.

Stomp Tokyo Review - Sabrina (1995)
It is one of the strengths of this film that it knows when to update the old screenplay in favor of something more modern, although most of the best dialogue from the old film is gone.
Sabrina is the story of the Larrabee family, their chauffeur, and the chauffeur's daughter, Sabrina (Julia Ormond).
As in the original film, Sabrina's development as a character has mostly finished by the time she returns from Paris, and it's Linus who spurs the plot on, and who grows as a person.

Sabrina is a 1954 film directed by Billy Wilder, adapted for the screen by Wilder, Samuel Taylor, and Ernest Lehman from Taylor's play Sabrina Fair (in the UK, the movie has the title Sabrina Fair).
Sabrina Fairchild (Hepburn) is the young daughter of the Larrabee family's chauffeur, Thomas (John Williams), and has been in love with David Larrabee (Holden) all her life.
After Sabrina attends a culinary school in Paris, she returns a very attractive and sophisticated woman, and David is quickly drawn to her.

 Filmtracks: Sabrina (John Williams)
Williams was coming off of his longest break from film scoring in a long time, deciding not to take a scoring assignment in 1994 and instead work on concerts and a variety of other projects.
Indeed, both of his 1995 film projects, Nixon and Sabrina, were critical failures, and his music for these films has fallen victim to neglect by even many of Williams' own fans.
It could be argued that several of his 1960's scores are more genuine than Sabrina in their performances; the modern ensemble also fails to swing with the appropriate dancing steps required to accentuate the excitement of love in the story.

 Sabrina Movie Review
SABRINA joins this list as the latest classic whose script and cast have been updated for the '90s -- although in the case of this variation on the CINDERELLA tale, the story admittedly has a certain timeless quality.
But SABRINA is fun in its own way, and, though clearly flawed, it nevertheless offers two hours' solid diversion (the overlong running time, by the way, is one of those flaws).
Since she was little, Sabrina has had a crush on the youngest Larrabee son, David (Greg Kinnear), a dashing playboy.

The plot is simple: Sabrina is raised on a palatial Long Island estate by her widowed father (John Wood) and pines in vain for handsome, irresponsible David Larrabee (Greg Kinnear), the younger son of her father's ungodly rich employer (Nancy Marchand).
In the early scenes, for example, when Sabrina's beauty is meant to be blunted by formless clothes, bushy long hair and thick glasses, we're supposed to believe that David never notices her.
In the course of squashing Sabrina's romance with his brother, he finds himself falling in love with her, discovering his warm and fuzzy side at last.

Sabrina could not have achieved a more glorious existence had she died and gone to heaven.
She watches the lavish parties thrown by the Larrabees from a spot in a tree and falls madly in the kind of puppy love that never goes away with the younger of the Larrabee brothers, David, who is the kind of guy who gives playboys a bad name.
The basic skeleton of this, the story from the first Sabrina (1954), which is dreamily romantic enough and then some, is greatly augmented here with some very fine psychological touches including developing Sabrina's character beyond the pretty and stylish to something bordering on the wise and heroic.

The success of the studios in gaining approval for their films and even the assessment of the films in the Chinese media has been dependent on a studio's "sincerity" toward China and, in extraordinary circumstances, on the larger issue of Sino-American relations.
It was clear that imported films had become essential to the survival of the Chinese film industry.
Among various problems were the poor dubbing done by the August 1 Film Studio, the fact that most Chinese were not familiar enough with American history, and the general lack of excitement and entertainment value provided by the film, particularly in comparison with "The Fugitive" and "True Lies".
