Distel insisted that he had only been giving her a lift (of 150 miles), but Nobel, who spent a month in a coma and subsequently became a wheelchair-bound recluse, hinted darkly that there was more to it than that.
Sacha Distel was appointed to the Legion d'honneur in 1997.
