		Saddle Butte peoples were present in north central Montana from about 800 years A.D. until at least 1,200 years A.D. All areas of the Wahkpa Chu'gn Archaeological Site were used extensively by Saddle Butte peoples both for buffalo kill and campsite activities.
		Prairie and Plains side notched arrow point types, which characterize the Saddle Butte people, are slender arrow points differing in form and not as well made as Avonlea points.
		Either Avonlea and/or early Saddle Butte peoples at the Wahkpa Chu'gn site specifically used buffalo corrals.

		Drive north on ND23 for 5 miles and turn right onto CR14, drive 2 miles and turn right (south), and drive just over a mile and park on the side of the road just west of Saddle Butte.
		The fence and gates are posted no trespassing, so I asked a local couple driving by if they thought anyone would mind me hiking to the top, and they said there should be no problem.
		There is a communication tower on the lower side of Saddle Butte.

		The map does not show it, but a grassy road then leads essentially to the very summit which is capped by an overturned cedar stump in the woods to the left.
		No particular views on this cloudy day in the trees, and the top was so anticlimactic that I didn't even bother to take a self-timer shot of my lonely self finishing another Washington milestone.
		I rode back to the saddle between the 1480+ NE summits and out to an open view north and NE to Grays River Divide and Wahkiakum's CoHP, Huckleberry Ridge.
