Sadiq was killed amidst the military standoff between Ismail Khan and General Abdul Zaher Nayebzadah, the Defense Ministry's Herat Division commander.
Both were seized by Khan's fighters, forcing Nayebzadah to flee to the neighbouring Baghdis province.
Many credit Ismail Khan for this achievement, who swiftly asserted his authority after the defeat of the Taliban and kept the city largely out of trouble ever since.

Khan's spokesman Ghaulam Mohammad Masoon alleged Sadiq was killed by gunmen at Naibzada's house while he was trying to find out who was behind an apparent assassination attempt on his father.
He said Sadiq had tried to storm his home, killed two guards at the entrance, and was himself killed in the subsequent exchange of fire.
"Ismael Khan's forces surrounded the 17th military division and his son, along with the director of intelligence and police security director with 100 troops, surrounded my house at the same time," Naibzada told AFP by telephone.

Lying midway by road between Karachi and Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan is district headquarters in the Bahawalpur Division.
The name was changed to Rahim Yar Khan in 1881 after the Crown Prince of the Bahawalpur State, the eldest son of Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan.
