The Sadozai are a lineage of the Popalzay clan of the Abdali tribe of the Pashtun.
The Sadozai rose to power at the death of Nadir Shah in 1747, when the Sadozai King Ahmed Shah Abdali united the Afghan tribes under his rule.
It is still a question whether the Sudhan are the same tribe as the Sadozai, however in Kashmir, the Sudhans are a tightly knit community.

A high-ranking security official for Gov. Gul Agha, commander Sadozai, said Tuesday in Kandahar that top Taliban officials sent a messenger three or four days ago saying they wanted to talk about surrendering.
The names of the Taliban members and their location were not disclosed, but former Taliban defense minister Mullah Ubaid Ullah is said to be among them.
Agha and others were in a tribal council meeting on Tuesday to decide how to handle the surrender offer, said Sadozai, who uses one name only.

 The Aga Khan I in Afghanistan
The First Anglo-Afghan War, or First Afghan War (1255/1838 to 1258/1842), which is called for heavy sacrifices and untold hardship and suffering, was undertaken partly to counter the Russian advance in Central Asia and partly to place on the throne at Kabul the dethroned ruler, Shah Shuja, in place of Dost Muhammad (1791-1863).
Thus, the British occupied Afghanistan on August 7, 1839, and placed Shah Shuja (1780-1842), the amir of Sadozai tribe on the throne of Kabul and Kandhar.
Sir William MacNaghten (1839-1891) was designated as the British envoy at the court of Shah Shuja.
