The 750-bed, super speciality hospital of the Dawoodi Bohra community is finally taking shape at Charni Road, after a 30-year legal battle between the orthodox and reformist sections of the community.
The reformists were opposed to this as they felt that the building the hospital would entail closing down the sanatorium and his dargah and would destroy the memory of Peerbhoy, whose body is buried there, Peerbhoy's descendants are now part of the reformist movement in the community.
In 1997, there were allegations from the reformists that the hospital trustees changed the sanatorium trust deeds to give the Sayedna, spiritual head of the community, power to the hitherto private trust.
