Located in the northwestern part of Shikoku, Ehime faces the Seto inland sea to the north and is bordered by Kagawa and Tokushima in the east and Kochi in the south.
On November 1, 2004 the former city of Saijo merged with the former city of Toyo and the towns of Komatsu and Tanbara from the former Shusou District (dissolved by this merger) merged to create the new city of Saijo.
Ehime is said to physically resemble the shape of a Tiger, but one of the most famous symbols for the prefecture is the Mikan, or mandarin orange, which grow in abundance near many seaside communities.

 Information of Ehime
Its capital, Matsuyama, is the largest city on Shikoku, with a population of over 500,000 and an abundance of historical and cultural resources such as the famous Matsuyama Castle and Dogo Hot Spring Spa, the oldest bathing area in Japan.
Ehime, which sounds feminine to Japanese ears and literally means "beautiful maiden", is blessed by a mild climate with an average low of 5.3degrees C (42degrees F)in January and an average high of 27degrees C(81degrees F)in August.
Iyo, the old name for Ehime, is said to have first appeared as the name for the island of Shikoku in the "Kojiki" (Record of Ancient Matters) and the "Nihon Shoki" (Chronicles of Japan), both written in the early eighth century.

 Ehime Pilot Training School War Monument
Ehime Pilot Training School was opened in 1942, and the school provided petty officers for the Navy.
This monument honors men who during the Pacific War fought in battle or sortied in kamikaze special attack squadrons either far away in the clouds of southern seas or nearby in skies in and around mainland Japan.
In order to console the spirits from the Ministry of Communications Ehime Pilot Training School, this monument was erected on November 3, 1976, through the contributions of classmates and former workers at the school.

Grandmother passed away when the exchange students from Wisconsin came to Saijo for 8 days, and that was why I couldn't go back to Taiwan immediately.
I had to work average 12 hours a day, and force myself to smile in front of everyone because I want to make sure the kids will have fun in Saijo.

The storm bypassed the nation's capital, where blue skies returned, but weather forecasters warned that it was still threatening to cause damage to northern provinces with continued heavy rainfalls.
The National Police Agency said one person died in Okinawa, southern Japan, while four people were missing in Mie and three others were unaccounted for in Ehime and two other prefectures.
Damage to rice and other crops in Japan caused by typhoons and heavy rain this summer is estimated to total at least 155 billion yen (1.4 billion dollars), the farm ministry said.
