Topic: Sailor (band)

Sailor (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sailor is a British pop group mostly famous in the 1970s.
In 1989 a dream for Sailor and its fans came through: A new album, after a ten year silence, two new hit singles "The Secretary" and "La Cumbia", songs which are firm favourites at their concerts and which re-establish the band as a force to be reckoned with in the 90s.
In 2004 Sailor were voted the 45th most successful pop band of the last 40 years in Germany, surrounded by "Genesis" on 46 and "Culture Club" on 44.

 Sailor Jerry: Hype
Here's the hype: "In order to capture what Gyro calls the "raw mood, energy and vitality" of the Sailor Jerry brand, the images for the new lookbook were gathered at a photo shoot/party at a Philadelphia hipster dive bar called Silk City, featuring a performance by New York punkers the A.K.A.s.
I think this project works because the band is the real deal and honestly kicks ass.
Sailor Jerry has earned the legitimacy to do something like this." The lookbook is distributed to wholesalers and the press, with select spreads to be adapted for an international ad campaign".

Born in Seattle in 1998 at the tender age of intent, Unwed Sailor is helmed by Oklahoma-born songwriter Johnathon Ford.
Not aiming for Unwed Sailor to fall into the regular confines of a typical band, Ford’s ever evolving cast and crew has been tirelessly composed over the years of good friends and company.
Describing the picturesque brushes and swells of a rather unique orchestra, Unwed Sailor composed pieces as suited for concert halls as they are the hot, impassioned stages of dark night clubs from city to city.

Unwed Sailor   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Jonathan Ford (first mate of the Unwed Sailor group) and whoever his collaborators at the time are create an overly indulgent form of art rock, music that definitely wouldn't fly on a major label and with intricate packaging (see the Marionette and the Music Box book, for example) that would bankrupt smaller labels.
Whereas earlier Unwed Sailor releases were dynamic, weaving mathy elements of guitar, bass, and drums into the sort of instrumental rock that's correctly served without lyrical accompaniment, The Marionette's formula isn't as replete.
While Unwed Sailor probably felt as if they were doing just the opposite, they chose to find a cure for a benign affliction, and in doing so temporarily abandoned the qualified (yet equally promising) success of earlier aspirations.
