Albert is a city in Alberta, located northwest of Edmonton, on the Sturgeon River.
Albert was founded in 1861 by Father Albert Lacombe, who built a chapel in the Sturgeon river valley.
Albert Saints, which had been one of the most prestigious teams in the league during its life and produced players such as Mark Messier and Mike Comrie, moved to nearby Spruce Grove.

Father Albert Lacombe (28 February 1827 – 12 December 1916) was a French-Canadian Roman Catholic missionary who lived among and evangelized the Cree and Blackfoot First Nations of western Canada.
Lacombe was born in Saint-Sulpice, Québec to Albert Lacombe and Agathe Duhamel on 28 February 1827.
It was during this time that he began his studies of the Cree language, which ultimately led to a translation of the New Testament into Cree, as well as a grammar and dictionary of the Cree language.

The first Bishop of St. Albert died on 3 June, 1902, after a long episcopate of nearly forty-five years, and half a century of missionary life.
In 1890 the Diocese of St. Albert was divided, and the Vicariate Apostolic of Saskatchewan created, which in 1911 was erected as a diocese.
