Saint Marcouf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saint Marcouf (also called Marculf, Marcoul or Marcou), Abbot of Nantus in the Cotentin, is a saint born in Bayeux in Normandy who is best known for the healing of scrofula.
His relics were transferred to the abbey of Corbény in Champagne, where they played a part in the coronation ceremonies of kings of France, crowned at Reims, and the tradition of laying on of hands.
The traditional power ascribed to French and English kings to cure scrofula (the king's Evil) by the laying on of hands derives from the efficacy of the relics of Marcouf, according to the chronicle of Joan of Arc Chronique de la Pucelle [1].

Helier - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Saint Helier, a 6th century ascetic hermit, is patron saint of Jersey in the Channel Islands, and in particular of the town and parish of Saint Helier, the island’s capital.
Marculf sent Helier, and a companion Saint Romard, to Jersey where he found a small community of fishermen on the sand dunes where the modern town of St. Helier was to develop.
Evidence of veneration of the saint can be found in La Hague in the Cotentin at Querqueville and also at Omonville-la-Rogue where a 13th century mural in the church of St. John the Baptist links Helier with Thomas Becket.

The altar incorporates a bas-relief showing the death of Marcouf - with Saint Lo presiding over the scene - and also on display are two other reliefs from the old altar which was destroyed as a result of the bombardments of 1944, both of which depicting scenes from the life of Marcouf.
The pertinent point to note with regard to the story of Helier and Marcouf with regard to this event is that Kings of England and France claimed the power to Touch for the King's Evil (curing scrofula through the laying on of the Royal hands) through Saint Marcouf.
Marcouf's relics were venerated at his monastery in what was then Nanteuil, until raids on the area provoked their removal to a place of safety which turned out to be Corbény, near Reims.
