	Patriarch Photios I of Constantinople - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Photios is widely regarded as one of the greatest patriarchs of Constantinople since the times of John Chrysostom.
		Photios was deposed as patriarch, not so much because he was a protegé of Bardas and Michael, but because Basil I was seeking an alliance with the Pope and the western emperor.
		Photios was removed from his office and banished about the end of September 867, and Ignatios was reinstated on November 23.

	Photius, SAINT
		Photios was perhaps responsible for a new codification of canon (church) law, the Collection of 14 Titles, and probably for a new legal code, the Epanagoge, which spelled out a new importance for the patriarch with respect to the Emperor.
		It was Photios' conversion of the Moravians and Bulgars through the work of Cyril and Methodios that later led to the Byzantine conversion of the Russian Slavs.

		In November 1996, Father Savas was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite at the Monastery of Saint Gregory Palamas in Hayesville, Ohio, by Metropolitan Maximos of Aenos, Presiding Hierarch of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, then locum tenens of the Diocese of Detroit.
