Topic: Saint Pierre de Sorel

The Church of Saint-Pierre de Sorel
In 1678, a wooden mission chapel was erected and dedicated to Saint Peter at the confluence of the river Richelieu and the Saint Lawrence.
However, an announcement appeared in the Gazette de Québec in 1826 seeking the services of an architect and indicating that the plans could be consulted at the presbytery of Sorel or at the house of the carpenter Louis Dufresnay, in Québec.
At this time the side galleries and balcony above the ambulatory were removed, the structure of the reredos was altered and the rear balcony was enlarged using part of the balustrades from the former galleries.

"The descendants of Pierre Arsenault are numerous, particularly on Prince Edward Island, in the Gasp, in Louisiana and in New Brunswick.
We can reasonably estimate the date of settlement of Pierre Arsenault at Beaubassin around 1685, for at the major census taken in 1686 he is mentioned along with his family in the following manner: Pierre Arsenault, 40 years, married to Marie Guerin, 24 years; the eldest of their children is 10 years.
After 1686, the aging Pierre Arsenault went to live at Beaubassin and in the census of 1686 it is noted that Pierre Arsenault "possesses in the Seigneurie (lordship) of Beaubassin, one fire–arm, three acres cultivated land, eight animals with horns, four sheeps, six pigs"; in 1696 the English attacked and burned Beaubassin.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Catholic Indian Missions of Canada
Likewise, when the Sieur de Monts established his colony (1604) in what was to become known as Acadia, he had with him priests who soon turned their attention to the surrounding tribes.
Two priests, Father Pierre Biard and Edmond Massé, left Dieppe for Port Royal (26 January, 1611), and started their ministrations among the natives by a wise show of prudence, which some were tempted to regard as an excessive dilatoriness in admitting into the Church.
Bishop De Montmorency-Laval, the first prelate in the colony, entrusted to them the care of a mission established at Quinte Bay on Lake Ontario, for the benefit of the Cayugas, an Iroquois tribe, and many adopted Hurons settled in their midst.
