Es ist schon seit längerem bekannt, dass Salamandra salamandra bernardezi aus der nordspanischen Stadt Oviedo, wo kaum Laichgewässer zur Verfügung stehen, voll entwickelte Junge absetzt.
Die nordspanische Unterart des Feuersalamanders (Salamandra salamandra bernardezi) ist seit langem vor allem durch eine Population im Stadtgebiet von Oviedo bekannt, die sich durch das Gebären von vollentwickelten Jungtieren auszeichnet (THIESMEIER and HAKER 1990, Paskmans and KELLER 2000).
