	Sun.Star Davao - MILF confirms Salamat's death
		Salamat, founding chair of the MILF, died due to complications of a heart illness and acute ulcer, the group's vice chairman for political affairs, Ghazali Jaafar said.
		Salamat, whose age was unknown, was buried the day he died by his comrades in the southern town of Butig in Lanao del Sur province.
		Salamat was born in the southern village of Kudal in Pagalungan town in Maguindanao province and studied in Manila and Cairo.

	MILF Announces Death of Hashim Salamat
		MILF officials admitted that Salamat died on July 13 and that he was was buried on the same day in the town of Butig in Lanao del Sur province, about 900 kilometers south of Manila.
		Salamat’s renunciation of terrorism in June was one of the key demands made by the government for talks to end the MILF’s campaign for a Muslim homeland.
		Salamat helped form the MILF in 1982 when he led a faction that broke away from the Moro National Liberation Front to pursue a separate state based on a more purist interpretation of Islam.
